[All the deadpan, but the strokes are alone are worth all the nonsense he needs.]

Oh, okay. I don't know who owns him, but I named him Xifer. He seems to like it.

[Oh right, he's there for something.]

He got dirty somehow, he's turned black. I was going to take it off before he gets into trouble, but he escaped. Do you think he's scared of water?

[thatched]

Xifer, eh? I don't think he has an owner, lad. Phoenixes are free birds.

[scratches under "Xifer's" chin]

The black won't come off with washing, sadly. It's a natural phenomena. It means he's sexually frustrated but too chickenshit to actually court the lady of his life.

[Oh you are SO getting a headbutt for that Thatch.]

Nice. REAL nice. I'll have you know I brought her flowers. So there, yoi!

[Nobody owns him? That's pretty weird isn't it, but there's a lot of people on the ship, they could probably feed him as much as he wants.

Roxas blinks at the suggestion of courting someone.]

He found a girl phoenix then? How come I've never seen her?

[he chuckles at the headbutt and whistles softly, 'good boy']

She's the pet of another pirate. And he can't bring himself to completely leave your side, yoi. It's a tragedy.

[Lightly pecks Thatch.]

I'm so telling Robin you called her Straw Hat's pet, yoi.

[Roxas blinks. That's a weird concept.]

Why not? He can go visit another bird if he wants to. It's okay Xifer.

[He peers at Marco curiously. At least he doesn't think he should wash him anymore.]

I'm going to teach him how to skateboard on one foot!

[thatched]

You go do that. But take it easy on that thing. No more than four hours a day combined, alright? Or I'll break it and serve it for breakfast.

[he sounds kidding but he's really not. To Marco he chirps]

Go ahead

Four hours?

Gan Fall help me Thatch if you think I can handle --

[A sigh and Marco hops down to go find the skateboard with Roxas.]

[Don't worry Marco, Roxas already skateboarded for awhile earlier so there's not four hours left.

It doesn't take too long to get there, of course and Roxas kneels down. Carefully he grabs for Marco to scoop him up and place him on the board.]

This will be fun Xifer. You just have to keep your balance, and then you have to stand on one foot. I'll push you, so don't worry about that.

[thatched]

[just whistles:]

Good luck, chickadee.

Cheep.

[Marco nods to Roxas as he goes on the board, and it's a little weird on one foot, but he just sits carefully, hold his right leg up.]

Okay, just try and hold on!

[Roxas grins and pushes the board. This time it's a little slow because Marco has to get used to it before Roxas has him zooming all over the place.]

[Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!]

[Insert Geico pig squealing inside of Marco's head here.]

[Just for this, he will totally take Roxas flying sometime.]

[Marco is one talented phoenix. As long as he can stay on the board, Roxas is happy to push it harder and faster along the deck, so Marco can feel how fun it is.]

What do you think Xifer? I don't know if you can do more tricks, because you only have two feet. Not unless you want to ride on my shoulder or something.

[Only two feet? Perhaps Roxas means as opposed to without hands.]

[But to the suggestion, Marco hesitates. It can be hard to find a good grip without crushing someone's shoulder, and he's as light as a bird, but that's still a lot heavier than it looks. Especially since he looks like fire.]

[He'll just have to be careful.]

[So he hops up.]

[He's a little surprised, but that seems like Marco's taking his suggestion. He stands up straight and scratches his belly lightly. Fortunately, those keyblades aren't the lightest things in the world and Roxas has two of them, so the added weight doesn't really make him think twice about it.

He pops his skateboard up in his hand, thinking.]

We'll do something easy first. Don't get too scared!

[He drops it and plants a foot on the board. He decides he should probably warn Marco what he's about to do.]

I'm going to grab the board when I jump, and then I'll jump again and flip it beneath my feet.

[Here we go. Roxas starts building speed first, zooming around the deck.]

[Marco's eyes do widen a bit warily. Not because the speeds or mid-air worries him, it's just staying on Roxas' shoulder without clawing him accidentally that concerns him. If he claws up Ace, it's not a big deal. If he claws up Namur -- well no, that's pretty bad since the sharkman goes nuts, but still, Marco doesn't claw Namur because he sits on him differently. And Jozu is made of diamond so he never had to worry about clawing him. That and Jozu's twenty feet tall, but the point is, Roxas is a kid and Marco's talons can take huge chunks out of people so...]

[He'll just have to be VERY careful.]

[And let go to fly if he gets too worried.]

[Roxas isn't worried, and he trusts Marco not to hurt him on purpose.

When the desired speed is achieved, he jumps, catching the board with one hand and lands smoothly back on the deck. One more jump and the board's flipped while he's in the air.

He lands with precision and is just circling again, harmlessly on the deck.]

[Oh! Well this isn't so bad. So long as he just holds his balance without gripping, it should be fine, and it definitely seems like fun, so Marco goes along for the ride.]

[Partly forgetting about Marco, after a few more little jumps, his mind wanders. After all, Roxas was distracted to begin with.

The next time he jumps, he's careless on his landing and in missing his footing he lands on the deck. Oops. It doesn't happen often, but Roxas can't be great all the time.]

[Marco's a little jostled, and surprised at the landing, but he keeps from clamping down even reflexively, and peers around Roxas shoulder with a small cheep to ask if the boy is okay.]

[still within hearing distance of most of this, Thatch sings]

Cheap, cheap, the first mate's cheap
We wanted the wine and he wouldn't shut up
We wanted the rice and he gave us the shove
Cheap, Cheap, the first mate's cheap
We should shave him down

[Roxas gives Marco a little smile and pets him a little bit.]
