A sickly orange mist roiled out of the burning hulk, drifting over the remains of the enemy fleet...and filling the air with an intense feeling of terror. Not fear or dread, just absolute horror. Hoping that little display is enough to cover her end of their retreat, Chandra leaps off the prow and back to Ace's side.]
Ace? Hey! Captain. Can you hear me?
[She reaches down to him, hands on his chest.]
Fuck! What the hell did you eat?!

It was the only motivator he had to swallow the bomb. He could take the pain. That wasn't to say that he wasn't feeling the pain and fighting it. Ace's hands touched the deck, leaving blackened imprints. The sails surged, shifted by the rush of wind from his body. He couldn't hear anything except for the crack and spark of fire in his ears. Rushing blood turned to fiery oil, simply so it could keep pumping.
When he opened his eyes next, he was looking at Chandra and she looked fairly dismayed, herself.]
Hey, relax... I'm just worn out, it's alright. [He said, his chin and neck covered in his own blood.]

One hand reaches for his chin, the already superheated gauntlet taking it roughly. Not that she was sure he'd feel the heat, given how brightly they were both burning.]
You're not. What did they do to you, Cap? Tell me so I can undo it.
no subject
Poison, miss Chandra. The big guy... fired a gas shell up and tried to rain it down on everybody.
[He was happy, the idiot.]
And, seems like I stopped it...
no subject
First, don't call me miss. Second, I'm going to need you to hold still. I can get at the poison, get it out of you, but it's going to hurt like a motherfucker. If I don't, you might die.
[And that means she's got work to do. She grabs her gloves off with a frustrated grunt of effort and lays them on his chest. Closing her eyes, she begins to concentrate, trying to locate the poison in his blood.]

You gotta... Hurry... I might wanna turn back and kill more of 'em.

[And then she reached out for her power, and...into him with it. Heat rolled off them, and her magic seeped through his skin, worming it's way through him and latching onto where she thought the poison was. And then she began to tug, pulling the flaming toxin up through his body, hauling on it with her magic. It didn't want to go, and the act itself was rather difficult, so it was slow going, but after an agonizingly slow moment or two a tiny bit of it began to poke out of his body, a brownish flame held in a bubble of pure mana.]
Just...got it started.

You've got cold hands...
[Though he teased, it wasn't entirely a joke. Ace's fire was his blood and unlike poison mixed with blood, one component of poisoned flame wouldn't leave the general strand of his fire so easily. It clung to his blood and pulled it out with him in the form of fire. Pain echoed through him each time it happened, but he didn't make a noise. The fiery hell. The frozen hell. None of them were enough to wear him down. Ace stared up into the air, waiting.]

[She snorted and pumped more power through her hands, tugging on the strand of poisonous flame. She was beginning to actually sweat, though more from nerves than anything. It was tedious work, but more and more of the flame slid from his body.]
Almost...just...hold on.
[She kept up her work, slow but sure, while the fighting raged all around them.]

When it finally happened, it made him feel at ease--as if he had stretched himself out after a long nap. Ace's heart beat steady and despite how atrocious he looked, he reached up to take Chandra's hand before sitting up.]
...Hungry.
no subject
Yeah. Me too.
[And then she leaned forward and kissed his messed up face right on the cheek, letting her lips transfer a whisper of mana through to him with the full intent of making him blush while speeding the healing process along. Fucker, scaring her like that.]
We'll get you food as soon as we get clear.
no subject
...I-I'll get the helm.
no subject
Yeah, you do that. I'll cover our butts.
no subject
I'll get the helm.
no subject
Get a move on then. I heard you the first time.
[And for emphasis, she smacked him on the behind and started towards the prow, fireballs already forming on her fists.]
