"If someone's in charge of this many people, then knowing where they are every few days is important. What if you weren't here now when Ace thought you would be? I saw that line; they don't exactly have healers just lying around everywhere."
He muttered the last part while glaring at his wound as she worked on it. "You're more important than that."

Her sharp tone eased, though, with his last statement.
"And he'll adjust accordingly. Ace has been a captain a lot longer than we've been stuck on the ocean. I make it a point to make sure that you, and Asami for that matter, are still here and okay every morning. That's not good enough?"
no subject
"Funny, I was doing the same thing." He rose an eyebrow and managed to just barely keep the corners of his mouth from twitching. But he made his point, that was all he needed to do before settling back for the healing session.
That and being scolded by her.
"Knowing Asami, she's probably doing that too." It made sense. They were all they had from home aside from whatever personal belongings came with them. "How is she anyway, we all didn't get hurt, did we?"
He's already betting that they did, and thankfully not worse. Korra wouldn't have been this calm were it otherwise.

"I don't know what exactly makes people just... disappear from here, but I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that neither of you does."

Shoulder injuries aside. That gash she had kept catching his eye.
Disappearances were one thing, but Korra came back after being back home. "Do you know if there’s any way we can tell if someone’s gone for sure?" He was sure she’d pick up on what he meant there, too.
no subject
"Nope. They're just... gone. And we can't even know if they were taken away the same way as I was, because we can't exactly ask them." She sighed, making one last movement with the water over Mako's arm before stowing it.
"We just have to keep track of each other like we have been."

A quick movement of his fingers irritated the wound, but nearly as badly as before the healing. "Thanks, Korra. I'll go check on that line. You should too."
no subject
"I will." With a nod toward the door in casual offer for him to follow, Korra made her way back up to the deck.

He got up from the hammock holding his wounded arm to his side and followed Korra back up the steps. If this was what pirate life was going to be like, it was reassuring to know Korra was there to count on.
