She let her arm rest down beside her again, being careful not to make any sudden movements. The healing session took away most of the pain, but there was still a slight twinge that arose every now and then.

With a nod, Asami gave a half smile at Mako's somewhat joke. "I did, she already gave me a healing session and Zeff was able to set it beforehand. What about your leg, are you gonna okay?"
streetferret: (Serious: What is that on the wall anyway)

A half smile was better than none.

After the fire in the kitchen, Mako was pretty sure Zeff didn’t want to see any of them again, but he made a mental note to thank the gruff chef the next chance he got. Mako shook his head and hovered his hand near his right hip, the bandage under his clothes made it slightly prominent.

"Not my leg, just on my hip. Said it was a graze and should be fine in a week or two. No scarring thanks to the healing." Getting used to having to change the dressing on occasion was going to be a nuisance, but whatever.

But that was all battle and crew talk, something Mako could just gloss over without sweating the details. Given the situation they were in, he wasn’t exactly sure where he stood from Asami’s point of view.

"You eat yet?" With everyone still regrouping, the kitchen would have been empty; and it would give them space to talk.

Oh. Well leg or hip, the limp still looked pretty bad to her, but it was good to hear that the injury was going to heal up fast. Asami had no idea how long it would take for her shoulder to get back to normal. Hopefully within a week or so too.

"Not recently. The last time was before the Navy attacked, which, well...you know." She made a gesture with her hand. There wasn't a lot of time to eat during the whole mess and even afterwards, Asami didn't have much of an appetite. Though now that Mako brought it up, she was starting to realize how famished she was.

She stood up and shifted her weight to one side of her body. "Why? Are you getting hungry?"
streetferret: (Blush: I've actually got some moves too)

As simple and organic as the question was, Mako balked and it was a moment before he answered.

"Yeah. I could use some food." It had been the furthest thing from his mind, Mako was used to skipping meals thanks to having an almost non-existent budget for the majority of his life. At that moment, he was falling into the habit of making sure others were taken care of before him.

He offered his left arm, hand open, for her to use to help stand up. "There’s enough ingredients to make something from home." One of the perks of meeting the chef on his first day.

Asami looked at Mako's offered hand before she averted her eyes to the floorboard. However, she allowed him to help and made a grab for the hand.

"I thought it'd be something like that. What were you thinking?" Dumplings were the first thing she thought of, him and Bolin seemed to like them well enough. Aside from the box full of salami she got for Christmas and then cooking with Korra, Asami hadn't really had the chance to get a good look at the ingredients in the galley. After the setting everything on fire cooking incident, she didn't dare with a second attempt. Not that Zeff would have let her.

Glad that she wasn't fussing about his hip, Mako grinned as he helped Asami to her feet. "Well, we've got plenty of fish and rice. But I can add some dumplings and noodles on the side." That may sound big, but he’s used to cooking for bottomless pit of a brother he called Bolin.

"I promise it won’t be street gruel." Not that he was an immaculate chef from Kwong’s, but Mako could make things work if he set his mind to it. He led the way down to the galley, making sure to offer Asami assistance on the steps. The ones he took just a little more slowly than he usually did.
