March Medly (continued) - Snow and Death
Who: Crews of the Sinewave, Triton's Mistress, and anyone they happen to encounter/pick up land-side.
Where: southern ocean, any of the ships involved, the island of Muertos; backdated prompt at Gun Frontier.
When: Roughly 3/16 to the end of March; backdated prompt happens around 3/8-ish.
What: Following the Navy Battle, the combined crews happen upon a map to a shard in the middle of Muertos! They sail there and also possibly look out for the haunted treasure that Dog hinted at. Backdated prompt--meet n' greet, Sinewave and Mistress-style!
Warnings: Language mostly, talk of death, maybe violence. Will updated as needed.
Style: Prose or action, whichever you'd like!
Status: Semi-open to crews in the area, possibly also chasing Muertos's treasure.
Another mingle! Please specify where you are and when it happens in the header. Feel free to make subthreads for parties or other large gatherings if you'd like.
Have fun!

[Alex turns to hiss the words. The creatures who sometimes make themselves known along the edges of where they go have her on edge enough. And the smell of the place is all wrong. And she's still not quite calmed down from the battle and the damages done there.]
We don't know what's out here other than those things.
And if you wake something up, you can fend for yourself.

Unless you have experience with recognizing and disarming traps, you may wish to look away from the map and let me take the lead. I have a history of wandering into unknown areas and surviving.

[She recovers fast enough, passing it off as an involuntary shiver and roll of her shoulders.]
With how things are around here, I don't know if I can take that seriously anymore. [Codi chuckles and grins. Humor will distract from her discomfort, right?] If Davy Jones doesn't revive you, maybe you'll come back as one of these things.
[A small skeleton creature, apparently trying to stay hidden in the underbrush, seems to realize that it's been spotted and scuttles back into the forest. Codi is (outwardly) unperturbed; she cranes her neck to look back at Crocker.]
Just worry about keeping up, Denny. [She beckons him and Alex with a wave of her hand.] We're passing through the middle of the map soon. There's a...dot, here. Then a few more paces, then we should be at the end.

[Lenalee kept a cool head but inwardly she didn't want to think about it. After all they were on a mission and that was what she was trying to focus on. Taking a few steps forward, going slightly on ahead of the others as she turns her head, checking to see if the others were still behind her or not.]
A dot? You mean on the map or part of this island?
no subject
What? She's not sure which direction we're headed, if I could cast a shadow we could tell from that!
[Codi on the other hand rather than screaming his body just shakes in frustration.]
Really Codi, really!? Even if you are revived dying still sounds rather unpleasant! Wait a dot?!]
You mean as a landmark?
no subject
I don't know. [She raps the map with her glowstick and shrugs.] Maybe? For all I know, someone could've just left their pen down too long. It's just a...blob.

[It's more sarcastic than anything, and the sarcasm is from nerves. She's seen enough movies. The prowling creatures in the distance? Rarely stay there. Eventually, there's some mass, bloody attack.
Elissa's words -- and her own experience with exactly nothing Elissa mentioned -- caused her to fall behind, taking up a rear guard. Because if she can smell something off about the woman, these creatures probably can, too. They might be avoiding her just as much as they are Alex.]
If we're getting close, we need to be careful. Both for traps [because usually people hid things with the intention of returning for it and wanting to make sure no one took it while they were gone] and for whatever it's in. [Because she, at least, wouldn't just leave it lying in the open.]
...If it's even still here.

The Warden remains still for a few heartbeats as if waiting for something to happen.]
Perhaps it is merely a mistake with the ink.

[Without a key or legend it was impossible to say for sure what that could be. The thought of an oncoming attack Crocker begins to jigger and grabs the reload rifle he's been carrying and he's twitching because who knows what will pop up in the dark but if they were going to deal with something on the supernatural level... Crocker knew that this rifle is completely unless! And is going to follow closely behind Elissa with his eye twitching everywhere and making use of what he can of his eye behind his head.]

[She carefully took a few more steps forwards. Her eyes looking around at all times, she could go on ahead and check to see if there was anything near by, she figured in that way she could help.]
Would it be okay if I go on ahead, check things out? At least that way we'll know if there is anything near by or not?
no subject
[You're not the only one who can be sarcastic, Alex. Codi ignores most other suggestions, instead watching the fresh glowstick sail into the dim path ahead.]
[It lands after a few rolling bounces. It seems that there's a decent-sized clearing ahead, which the light only manages to vaguely outline with odd shadows of overgrown brush and leafless trees. A few skittering shapes evacuate the area before their forms can be clearly illuminated.]
[In the center is a small mound of dead leaves.]
...Or it could be that. [Codi takes a careful step forward, then stops and turns to Lenalee.] I mean, you could. I won't stop you.
no subject
Not at Codi, not really. Because nothing she's saying actually matters. What matters is that very clear pile of leaves. It's too obvious and constructed to be just a natural collection.]
So. Who wants to lose their hand?
[Because that's really seeming the most likely.
...And she's the one with the supernatural healing, so, well. She can imagine how this conversation is going to go.]
no subject
If I lose a hand to something and will survive? Please kill me. Perhaps Jones will reattach it.
[She could be joking. Maybe. It is something to ponder.]
The third rune on each of my blades is to provide extra damage against the undead. If these skeletal creatures do not fit that requirement, I am not certain what does.
You go left, Alex? And I will go right? Watch for other dangers underfoot. That mound of leaves could be a concealed pit trap or it could be trying to encourage us to avoid it in order to stumble into other traps just outside of its borders. I would suggest walking around it with care until we know for certain.
[Lowering herself into a crouch, Elissa all but faded from view and her footsteps became nearly silent.]
no subject
Oh no. Don't any of you look at me.
[Had this been 'X' marks the spot Crocker would had gone into the pile without a second thought. Meanwhile, Denzel is just going to follow Codi.]
