March Medly (continued) - Snow and Death
Who: Crews of the Sinewave, Triton's Mistress, and anyone they happen to encounter/pick up land-side.
Where: southern ocean, any of the ships involved, the island of Muertos; backdated prompt at Gun Frontier.
When: Roughly 3/16 to the end of March; backdated prompt happens around 3/8-ish.
What: Following the Navy Battle, the combined crews happen upon a map to a shard in the middle of Muertos! They sail there and also possibly look out for the haunted treasure that Dog hinted at. Backdated prompt--meet n' greet, Sinewave and Mistress-style!
Warnings: Language mostly, talk of death, maybe violence. Will updated as needed.
Style: Prose or action, whichever you'd like!
Status: Semi-open to crews in the area, possibly also chasing Muertos's treasure.
Another mingle! Please specify where you are and when it happens in the header. Feel free to make subthreads for parties or other large gatherings if you'd like.
Have fun!

BACKDATED - Meet n' Greet, Gun Frontier
[They've done their best to make it hospitable for the crews, though. Intact tables and chairs are set up around the sides, broken ones cleared out of the middle, and with enough of the island's famous bourbon stocked at the bar, anywhere can seem welcoming.]
[Get to know one another! There's quite a long journey ahead of you.]
BACKDATED - Meet n' Greet, Gun Frontier: OTA
He's dressed rather elegantly in a light blue Victorian Era men dress clothes, complete with a top hat and bowtie.
At the moment he's sitting at a table alone and slouching over some blueprint paper and a drafting compass in his one hand, as he continues to work on how to create machine in order to turn the ship invisible. There's a glass of tea not far from him, even if he did get a strange look from the bartender but that other stuff smells horrible.
"We're going to need some - FAIRY magic for this..." Denzel appears to twitch and jerk his body on the word 'fairy' for a moment.
There's an after-thought what if there aren't any here?! "Well, I could always try to figure out how to harness the power of that shard."
Event - SNOWBALL FIGHT!! - ocean, 3/22
[The warmer weather also means that the snow packs very well, so Codi has noticed, but it melts too quickly for her to make any large structures on the main deck. Not so fast that she can't squeeze a fist-full of it and aim for the first person she sees, though.]
[The first slushy green snowball arcs through the air towards whoever is unlucky enough to have their back turned. Neither ship is safe.]

[The green slush-ball sails over Harlock's head, landing somewhere on the main deck of the Mistress. Maybe it hit someone else?]
Event - SNOWBALL FIGHT!! - ocean, 3/22
Denzel is not paying attention and could get creamed by any wandering snowball...

no subject
...Hmm? Something wrong?
no subject
[Denzel shakes his head sometimes he thinks he's losing it more.]
How are you today?
no subject
[Yup, that sure isn't a snowball behind her back. Nothing to see here.]
no subject
[From what can be seen of Crocker's eye which isn't covered he does appear tired looking.]
[Crocker ponders off to the side and not paying attention that one of Codi's arms is behind her back.]
Wait. [As he does recall that March 15th did pass because of how he acted more evil.]
What's the date today?
[Denzel counts on his fingers the number of days since the 15th of March]
EDGAD!
[Before running off to the side of the ship and clings to the side, almost like he's looking for something...]
no subject
[At the helm, Codi sharply curses her misfortune.]
no subject
[Crocker's one eye widens.] What was that noise? [His head darting around before landing on Codi.]
You haven't seen any rainbows today have you?
no subject
[She blinks, then points to a spot just past Crocker's head.]
...Well, except that one.
no subject
Muertos, night
Nor does she see one even after dark.
The skeleton animals prowl, eyeing this creature, but she knows they smell what she does right now: death. There's flesh and blood to her bones, yes, but she isn't prey. Those with her... Well. For now, it seems she's a deterrent for anything like that.
Which is probably one of the first perks to being a dhampir since she got here. Healing and this.]
What's the map say next?
[They've been going most of the day. But she has a new source of energy. She doesn't have to worry about sleep.]
no subject
[Surely the plans will materialize when they happen. For right now, they have a map to follow.]
...Five dotted lines due north. [Codi squints and holds the map closer to her face, nearly pressed against her nose.] Or six. I'm sure it doesn't matter. Anyways, we're looking for some kind of...big, crazy tree and three rocks, then we take a left.
no subject
Alex is very happy to be in the lead right now because that lets her hide the exaggerated rolling of her eyes. Landmarks can change. The tree might have been struck by lightning and destroyed. The stones might not be as prominent as the map makes them seem. But those dotted lines? Could very likely be actual measurements.]
Keep an eye out, then.
[There's been a particular animal following them -- something very canine in its movements. Just out of sight most of the time, giving flashes of its presence. Whether it's waiting for a chance to strike or just following them out of curiosity, Alex doesn't know. Doesn't want to know.]

This island lacks darkspawn, but it does not lack for danger, thus the Warden is ever vigilant of their surroundings. Perhaps, out of all of them, she is the most experienced in exploring new and dangerous outdoor places. She has her last acid flask on her belt, left from the Blight for use in damaging a small area - and she made certain her lockpicks were clean before starting out. When she speaks, her voice is hushed.]
I have some things called a 'glowsticks' should you need them. The Backwater Brig had them in stock when last we were there. Strange little thing. Snap it and it glows.
no subject
Would you know what you mean by crazy looking trees? Do they look like something or is it just they don't look like the other trees?
no subject
It's got these...prongs and things on it. [Dubious squinting; it's very hard to tell in the dark!] I guess it could just be a really big tree, or a really old one. Kind of hard to tell without something to compare it to...Anyway, we'll probably know when we see it.
no subject
[Because glowing lights? Only makes them easier to find. Not that she would ever bolt and leave those around her to be consumed by the skeleton creatures if they attacked.
...Or, well. No. That would totally depend on the situation.]
no subject
Here. See if this helps you see the drawing.
[Right about now, she's fiercely missing Dane, her Mabari hound. Not only would he be a welcome companion, he'd be more than delighted to attack any bone creature that came toward them.]
no subject
Over there, could that be the tree?
[It wasn't exactly easy to tell, at least not until she tried to get a closer look, always on guard as she did.]
no subject
Ah! Much better. [She squints again at the map, then looks up at the tree Lenalee is gesturing at.] ...What, that one? Yeah, sure. That's probably it.
[The three rocks at the base are amidst some other smaller stones, and the tree does...honestly look like most of the other creepy flora surrounding them, but Codi could apparently care less about the details. She halts at the tree--turns the map sideways, draws an imaginary compass in the air with her glowstick to reaffirm that, yes, they are turning left here--and starts heading down the nonexistent path, further into the forest.]
no subject
Pass a glowstick over here?
[Denzel remarks to Elissa before remarking to Codi as he watches her draw in the air and peers at the map and then the tree.]
That is the tree! That is it!
[Don't ask how he knows it's just Crocker instinct with strange things like this.]
What next, Captain?
no subject
[Alex turns to hiss the words. The creatures who sometimes make themselves known along the edges of where they go have her on edge enough. And the smell of the place is all wrong. And she's still not quite calmed down from the battle and the damages done there.]
We don't know what's out here other than those things.
And if you wake something up, you can fend for yourself.
no subject
Unless you have experience with recognizing and disarming traps, you may wish to look away from the map and let me take the lead. I have a history of wandering into unknown areas and surviving.
no subject
[She recovers fast enough, passing it off as an involuntary shiver and roll of her shoulders.]
With how things are around here, I don't know if I can take that seriously anymore. [Codi chuckles and grins. Humor will distract from her discomfort, right?] If Davy Jones doesn't revive you, maybe you'll come back as one of these things.
[A small skeleton creature, apparently trying to stay hidden in the underbrush, seems to realize that it's been spotted and scuttles back into the forest. Codi is (outwardly) unperturbed; she cranes her neck to look back at Crocker.]
Just worry about keeping up, Denny. [She beckons him and Alex with a wave of her hand.] We're passing through the middle of the map soon. There's a...dot, here. Then a few more paces, then we should be at the end.
no subject
[Lenalee kept a cool head but inwardly she didn't want to think about it. After all they were on a mission and that was what she was trying to focus on. Taking a few steps forward, going slightly on ahead of the others as she turns her head, checking to see if the others were still behind her or not.]
A dot? You mean on the map or part of this island?
no subject
What? She's not sure which direction we're headed, if I could cast a shadow we could tell from that!
[Codi on the other hand rather than screaming his body just shakes in frustration.]
Really Codi, really!? Even if you are revived dying still sounds rather unpleasant! Wait a dot?!]
You mean as a landmark?
no subject
I don't know. [She raps the map with her glowstick and shrugs.] Maybe? For all I know, someone could've just left their pen down too long. It's just a...blob.
no subject
[It's more sarcastic than anything, and the sarcasm is from nerves. She's seen enough movies. The prowling creatures in the distance? Rarely stay there. Eventually, there's some mass, bloody attack.
Elissa's words -- and her own experience with exactly nothing Elissa mentioned -- caused her to fall behind, taking up a rear guard. Because if she can smell something off about the woman, these creatures probably can, too. They might be avoiding her just as much as they are Alex.]
If we're getting close, we need to be careful. Both for traps [because usually people hid things with the intention of returning for it and wanting to make sure no one took it while they were gone] and for whatever it's in. [Because she, at least, wouldn't just leave it lying in the open.]
...If it's even still here.
no subject
The Warden remains still for a few heartbeats as if waiting for something to happen.]
Perhaps it is merely a mistake with the ink.
no subject
[Without a key or legend it was impossible to say for sure what that could be. The thought of an oncoming attack Crocker begins to jigger and grabs the reload rifle he's been carrying and he's twitching because who knows what will pop up in the dark but if they were going to deal with something on the supernatural level... Crocker knew that this rifle is completely unless! And is going to follow closely behind Elissa with his eye twitching everywhere and making use of what he can of his eye behind his head.]
no subject
[She carefully took a few more steps forwards. Her eyes looking around at all times, she could go on ahead and check to see if there was anything near by, she figured in that way she could help.]
Would it be okay if I go on ahead, check things out? At least that way we'll know if there is anything near by or not?
no subject
[You're not the only one who can be sarcastic, Alex. Codi ignores most other suggestions, instead watching the fresh glowstick sail into the dim path ahead.]
[It lands after a few rolling bounces. It seems that there's a decent-sized clearing ahead, which the light only manages to vaguely outline with odd shadows of overgrown brush and leafless trees. A few skittering shapes evacuate the area before their forms can be clearly illuminated.]
[In the center is a small mound of dead leaves.]
...Or it could be that. [Codi takes a careful step forward, then stops and turns to Lenalee.] I mean, you could. I won't stop you.
no subject
Not at Codi, not really. Because nothing she's saying actually matters. What matters is that very clear pile of leaves. It's too obvious and constructed to be just a natural collection.]
So. Who wants to lose their hand?
[Because that's really seeming the most likely.
...And she's the one with the supernatural healing, so, well. She can imagine how this conversation is going to go.]
no subject
If I lose a hand to something and will survive? Please kill me. Perhaps Jones will reattach it.
[She could be joking. Maybe. It is something to ponder.]
The third rune on each of my blades is to provide extra damage against the undead. If these skeletal creatures do not fit that requirement, I am not certain what does.
You go left, Alex? And I will go right? Watch for other dangers underfoot. That mound of leaves could be a concealed pit trap or it could be trying to encourage us to avoid it in order to stumble into other traps just outside of its borders. I would suggest walking around it with care until we know for certain.
[Lowering herself into a crouch, Elissa all but faded from view and her footsteps became nearly silent.]
no subject
Oh no. Don't any of you look at me.
[Had this been 'X' marks the spot Crocker would had gone into the pile without a second thought. Meanwhile, Denzel is just going to follow Codi.]
On the Sinewave's Deck
Standing at the rail he scanned the island ahead of them watching as those of the expedition disappeared over the rise. In the afternoon the island had seemed fairly peaceful but now that night had fallen the growls and grunts of strange animals could be heard and if he used his unique gift they could be seen glowing brightly along the edges of the forests. A bright red in a sea of otherwise calm, marking them as hostile.
"Those creatures are keeping their distance from the shore but we should ready a few weapons in case they attempt to move closer."
