[he heard the disappointment in her voice and frowned a little] hey, you should probably ask more people than just me before you decide it looks bad. Aquarian women don't even have hair and I spent more time amongst them than humans so trust me when I say I'm a crappy judge...and aren't there other ways you could use em? Like only leave 'em in for a little bit so your hair is just wavy not curly? Or try curling only the ends of your hair? You never know, you might like how they look if you try a different way.

[he felt kinda bad that he'd made her displeased with hair, and wondered if she would have liked it if he hadn't stuck his webbed foot in his mouth]

Anyway.... This? It's nothing really.... [it seemed to be in one piece so he let go of his tail, coming over to sit on the bed] ever since I gave myself that piercing I thought it was kinda cool to hang something on it. It used to be this flag charm I had for a long time, but then I changed it to something else....and now it's this set of fish bones. [which probably wasn't as descriptive and explanation as she wanted, but he seemed a little reluctant to talk about it]

*Faye continued to give Thash a blank, unimpressed stare. These were things she already was thinking about trying, she just didn't really feel much in the mood for taking fashion tips from him. So she listened, but said nothing else.

She looked at the fish bones, then continued to keep her eye on them even when he sat down*

So what made you change from the flag to the fish?

*Though she hadn't seen the flag, she imagined the fish bones looked a little bit cooler*

Oh...it's a stupid reason really. The flag had been a small blue one with a word in old Aquarian language on it. Then there was some random seaweed I put on there... [for some odd reason he sounded grouchy when he mentioned the seaweed] and then I got this. It looks better than a flag or seaweed right?

[yeah, smooth Thash. I'm sure she didn't notice you dodged the question at all]

Seaweed? Didn't it just get all mouldy and gross and stuff?

*No, Faye really didn't look keen on the seaweed idea. When he was done, Faye raised a brow at him, at look that said she noticed his evasion and she was still waiting for him to andwer the question. In case he was still planning on avoiding it, she nudged her shoulder into his*

Aa-aand, the reason you changed your little charms those times was...?

Heheh no, it was clean....[when she nudged him and persisted with the question he gave a small sigh]

Tenacious aren't you? Alright I'll tell you, but you're going to think I'm stupid...

[he frowned a bit, but reluctantly continued]

The charms have been subtle symbols of what I hoped for in my future. The blue flag had the word 'happiness' in old Aquarian on it... I wore that most of my life because even though I was an angry, rude grouch that hated the world and the world hated me...I still had hope I'd find some happiness someday. The thought kinda kept me going. After I met Zace...[his frown deepened] I gave her the flag as something from me to hang onto while we fought as allies in a horrible 'tournament' called the Myraid Path where death was a high possibility. In return she gave me her piece of lucky seaweed, something she normally had tied to her magical staff. So, I put that on there...[he released a rough sigh] because I hoped my future would be with her. After she left me...I removed the seaweed of course. I had nothing on there for a little while, during which I thought about what my future could possibly hold....

[he scratched the back of his head, looking down and seeming a little embarrassed] I decided all I really had to look forward to was death, so.... A set of dead fish bones seemed to fit.

...and it looks cool [he added]

*Faye grinned at that, deciding that tenacious sounded much better than nosey or annoying, and she nodded to encourage him to continue. She listened to his story, rather liking the idea of a charm that really stood for him. And he had interesting reasons for having both the flag and the seaweed. When he explained the bones, though, Faye frowned at him, ans she appeared rather close to giving him a punch*

What the fuck Thash? A symbol for death, for welcoming death, and you think that's okay? And still you wear it because, whatever, if you die you die? So what the fuck was I giving a shit for when you were bleeding all over the place? I healed you, I sewed your fucking skin, and what, all the while did you even care? Or was it just a case of, oh well if I bleed to death then never mind?!

Hey hey, calm down....[he leaned away from her angry outburst, although he'd sort of expected it] I just haven't thought about it much recently, okay? But yeah...right up until recently, I didn't really give a crap if I died. [he had a guilty look on his face as if she'd hit the nail on the head, although he wasn't about to go into detail about the ways he actually had encouraged and welcomed it, especially not a failed suicide attempt]

Things have changed okay? I do care if I die now, so... I'm gonna find something else to put on there. I just dunno what yet.

*Faye was a survivor. Her instincts were always to survive, and she'd never ever accepted death, even when things were at their worst. When he said that things had changed though she seemed to feel a little better. She'd been angry because it had hurt her to think that he just didn't care, and maybe her outburst had been a bit unnecessary*

Okay. But you'd better be. And you stick that fish bone thing somewhere else. Fish bones, Thash, seriously? Like all you are is just some big fish...

[although it seemed contradictory, Thash had what he would call 'annoyingly' strong survival instincts too. That was probably why, despite his invitation to death, he was still quite alive]

Well, I AM 1/4 fish if you think about it...and human bones are too big to put on my tail.... [he muttered, still looking away guiltily]

[after a moment he pulled his tail in front of him and started to take the fish bones off] I'll still have to think about what to replace it with...let me know if you have any ideas?

*At his comment about the size of the bones, Faye threw him a look that suggested that she hoped he didn't think it was funny, because she certainly didn't*

I don't know but you don't have to take it off on my account...

*Maybe feeling a teeny tiny bit bad that he was taking it off already*

[maybe he thought it was funny, but her look quashed that feeling pretty quickly]

Well you said I should put it somewhere else right? And it's not a good symbol anymore so I might as well take it off now. It could be giving me bad luck as we speak... [which he didn't really believe. He actually though his luck had been amazingly awesome since arriving in this world]

Hm, I wonder how busy were going to be with the race when we get to the next island? If we're not too terribly busy, you wanna go for another dive?

[true, he could take her on one enroute, but there wasn't as much to see without reefs around...at least not without going deeper than he was comfortable going with her along]

You said already you didn't believe in luck. Remember, at Port Chance? Otherwise you could've got a new charm when we were there.

*But she didn't do anything to stop him taking if off, thinking that it still might be better for him not to have it as a constant reminder on his tail. Maybe he was deliberately changing the subject, but she didn't seem to mind too much and nodded*

Yeah, that sounds good.

Oh, I didn't say that. I said I don't think a good luck charm you simply buy is going to be any good. An object has to have some kind of meaning or value to you personally to be special. The flag and fish bones were special because I made them with my future in mind...the seaweed was special because Zace gave it to me. But buying something just because it claims to be good luck? Naw, I don't think that would work. Not that I believe very strongly in luck...but I guess I do a little bit.

[he seemed pleased when she agreed to another dive] good! A lot of these little islands have very nice reefs. And I see different stuff almost every time I dive, so I'm sure you'll see something new.

So, if you were to make something to reflect your future now, what would it be?

*If it wasn't a symbol of death or something equally depressing then she'd be pleased*

Or, maybe we could find something else for you when we're down there.

*She smiled, but it faded when she looked at his fish bones*

When you were talking about decorating your room...using bones. That wasn't a death wish, was it? Or more just because they looked cool?

No...that was just because they look cool. There have been points in my life where I put bone-themed decorations or fish bones from large sea creatures around where I lived to scare people away... I came to appreciate how they looked quite a bit. Only the one on my tail symbolized death for myself, though.

[he finally got the fish bones detached, looking down at them in his hand for a moment before sticking them in his pocket, thinking he'd probably throw them away later...hopefully he'd never need them again]

As for what I'd make today... Hmmm. That's a good question. I have hope for happiness again...I hope I can stay here in this world, learn how to get along with people well and make some lasting friendships. ...I also hope I can find love of course. [he admitted quietly] but I don't know if I can find something to symbolize all that so I'll probably have to pick one thing, heh.

[he felt a little shy about it but he said one more thing, his tail thumping a little] I want you in my future too... I hope we don't get separated any time soon.

*She was glad at least that the other thing was just for decoration cause he thought it looked cool, maybe something more to do all that rock music he listened to or something. She didn't know. But that was fine.

Faye smiled as she listed what he wanted from this place, and if she was able to admit it to herself, she'd say similar things, though she blinked when he mentioned finding love*

That is quite a lot of demands, but it's a damn sight better than sitting around waiting for death.

*When he mentioned her being in his future, she looked at his tail, feeling something close to a blush*

Well, unless one if us decides to change crew, I guess we're stuck with each other for a while.

Hah, I know right....seems like I went from too despairing to too optimistic. But a guy can hope, right? [he smiled when she said they were stuck with each other for a while] I guess so, huh... [though he hoped it would end up being more than just a while]

Well, are you hungry? I went and caught a bunch of different kinds of fish a while ago. It's best to eat it while it's fresh.

Sure. If you don't hope and you don't go for what you want then you're not going to get it.

*For a second she thinks about telling him that she'll help him find these things, maybe even finding girls for him. But actually, she doesn't really want to say that so just smiles instead*

Hmm? Fish sounds nice...

*Faye glanced at the door as she sounded unsure. Going to eat would mean leaving the room, and she didn't really want to do that*

[he could see she was hesitant to go out but didn't understand why. Was it her hair?]

....if you'd rather relax in here I guess I could bring some? I'm no fancy cook but I can at least get it edibly cooked and basically seasoned.

*Faye put a hand on her head, dragging her fingers through her hair but she knew that wouldn't help. Yes, Faye really wouldn't want anyone seeing her with old lady hair. It was bad enough that Thash had seen her like this*

Oh? Are you offering to cook for me?

*She smirked, preferring to tease him than worry about her hair*

Well, yeah...if I'm gonna cook my own up I might as well get yours too [plus he kinda felt responsible for how much she hated her hair right now]

Like I said though, don't expect a fish like out of a five star restaurant heh. What kind of fish do you want? I'd list 'em off but chances are whatever you like, I caught it. I got a bunch of different kinds.

[and this time a sea monster hadn't followed him back to the ship, so that was a bonus]

*Faye certainly looked pleased at the thought of having some food made for her*

Just pick whichever fish you like. Surprise me! And, maybe you could bring something to drink too? I'm pretty thirsty.

Sure... [he smiled and stood up, heading for the door] I'll be back in a bit, then.

[he'd be gone a while, probably at least a half an hour, but eventually he'd return carrying a large tray with two plates of food, two glasses and a pitcher as well as a teacup. He brought it over to show her, looking down at it] I decided to cook us some eel! It's my favorite but I dunno if you've ever had it before, so...surprise, heh. I got some bread to eat with it, too. That's water in the pitcher but I also made you some tea...

[he glanced down at the teacup] I've uh...never made it before but I just followed the instructions so hopefully it's okay. [of course he was actually pretty crappy at reading so unless the instructions had been very simple, the tea might be a little messed up]

Where do you want me to set this? [he didn't want to set it on the bed, thinking it might tip over]

*During that time, Faye did what she could to her hair, and finally makes an elegant bun on the top of her head, but with the curls there were a few whisps loose here and there. Faye sat up with a smile, then she quickly gathered up all her cosmetics from her little bedside table, and moved to set it in the middle of the floor*

You can set it down there, and we'll sit on the floor. Aww, tea? That's cute, thank you.

*Faye took a couple of pillows from her bed and put them on the floor for them to sit on*

Okay...[he moved to set down the tray of food on the floor, then looked back up at her, noticing her hair] hey, that looks really nice.. [he reached out a hand to one of her little loose curls, pulling it lightly then watching it bounce back into place with a chuckle] cute...

[he then left her hair alone, sitting in one of the pillows she'd set down] so, this is a kind of saltwater eel that hangs around medium depths... I was lucky to find this one. See, most of them are only big enough to feed maybe one person, but this big guy happened to be really long and thick... So I grabbed him, knowing he's got enough meat on him to satisfy two people. [he said all this rather proudly]
