Rose Picking: Bloody Roses v. Straw Hats
Who: The Straw Hat Pirates v. The Bloody Roses
Where: Isla d Quarzo Rosa
When: 12th-13th
What: Finding that token!hopefully not in bird poo
Warnings: The usual
Status: Closed
The officiant here says a bird ate our token. Good luck getting it. B|
Also info on the island:
♦ ISLA DE QUARZO ROSA
[Direction from Isla Empieza]: Somewhere in the South.
[Terrain]: Clouds and rose quartz gemstones. Wild twisted thorn jungles and cities built out of crystal pillars.
[Weather]: Crystal clear. It’s always warm and bright, thanks to the sunlight reflecting off the stones. It’s best to wear a pair of tinted sunglasses the entire time you are here. Light storms hover over the jungles once in a while but otherwise the island floats high enough that it’s almost always perfect weather.
[Is the island inhabited?]: Yes!
[If so, what is the culture like here?]: The people of the island are very short, the tallest standing around four foot tall, rounded faces, feet flat and duck like, body rounded but human. They are all slightly pink tinted in hair, like everything else around this place. The people here have learned to carve out huge villages in the centers of rose courts crystal pillars. They hunt for food, mostly birds, in the twisting thorn forest.
[Island peculiarities]: The jungles are light brown, pink to green and roll round and round in thick loops, twisting around each other. When tapped the sap inside the twisted tree like roots and thorny vines are sweet and almost intoxicating if you’re not raised on the stuff. Traders will sometimes come and collect sap for sale on the seas.
The island is made up purely of crystal stone, rose colored, jutting out here and there. There is a large deep patch of earth in the far northern side of the island that grows a forest, but nothing else will actually grow there. No crops are made here. This jungle however is FULL of birds. The larger crystal pillars can be hollowed out to build homes in.
The clouds under the city keep it hidden from the seas below, but the vines in the north have gotten so large and so wild that through the clouds thick spiny arms seem to grow and twist under the island as well.
The only food here is some form of bird or another, or strips of baked vines from the forest.
Full jars of sap tapped from the trees of this place fetch a nice price on the "below seas".
Have at, guys!

[when she asked if he saw everyone as a chance to fight, he actually had to think about that a moment. A large percentage of the people he'd met here had sparred with him at his request and he intended to ask many who hadn't, so it might not be too far from the truth...]
...naw, not everyone. If they seem like they'd be too weak to put up an entertaining fight, I don't bother. Or if I don't like them. Then it could turn into a real fight.
[he poked at the bird again, this time stabbing the stick into it quite a bit to check how cooked the inside was]
Ah, I think it's done
no subject
Hmm... He'd maybe be up for a friendly fight. But it might be more friendly than fighting. He's a good one for cuddling, though, when he's transformed like that.
*Faye stepped aside when Thash decided it was done, allowing him the chance to get closer to the bird, and even get a hold of some of the meat to try. She'd wait until he'd done so before getting excited about food*
no subject
[he titled his head at her comment about Akira's cuddly wolf form] oh? Have you gotten him to cuddle with you? I thought you didn't like dogs. I mean yeah he's a werewolf not a dog, but wolves are similar to dogs in fur and appearances. [he was half joking; obviously a werewolf was very different than an unintelligent dog. He was almost surprised Faye wasn't concerned with getting wolf fur shed on her clothes, though]
[using his highly advanced cooking implement, aka sharp stick, he dug out some meat from the inside to make sure it was cooked through. It appeared to be, and after it cooled he took a bite]
Hmm....I like it. It's kinda similar to deer.
no subject
But he's Akira, and he's adorable. And it's the fact he can talk that makes it different. He doesn't just sit there and whine at you, expecting you to give it whatever it wants, y'know? Much better than a stupid old dog.
*She watched him carefully when he took a bite, but when he said it was like deer, Faye definitely looked much more interested, and moved closer to him, holding out her hand for some to try*
no subject
Here...it's not seasoned so it's not exactly bursting with flavor, but it's good. [he was used to eating unseasoned stuff anyway but this was one of the more flavorful meats he'd had, comparatively. He handed her the stick- the piece of meat he'd stuck on it was large enough the she could just bite the other side of it]
no subject
Hey, this isn't so bad from such a weirdo bird.
no subject
Yeah, it is pretty good. I'm gonna put out the fire now before it gets overcooked... [he used his tail to brush some dirt onto the fire to smother it, but did so carefully so no dirt would fly onto the meat. Nearby, he'd brought some plates, seasonings, and silverware from the galley and had them set on a large flat piece of quartz that was at a convenient height to function as a table]
I'm gonna fill a plate of it for us, okay? [he went to go grab a plate, suddenly realizing with a small frown that he'd forgotten to bring anything to drink]
no subject
Sounds good.
*But then she noticed his frown*
What's up?
no subject
[unless she'd be so kind? Not that he'd ask her to go out of her way, but if she offered he'd accept. She'd be able to better pick what she wanted that way anyway...if it was up to him he'd probably just bring water]
[he walked over to the meat and started using a knife to cut off pieces, letting it fall onto the plate]
no subject
*She disappears off onto the ship, returning shortly after with her arms wrapped round the various things she'd brought with her. There was a bottle of rum, a bottle of vodka, a tower of glasses, and a jug full of water, her fingers curled around the handle carefully*
There wasn't any fruit juice. We seriously need to make a good pit stop somewhere soon. So we've got rum, vodka, and water. Hope that's enough.
*Then she sets it all down carefully on the table, and stands, looking at the meat he'd cut*
That bird had a lot of meat on its bones.
no subject
[he glanced at the meat as well with a nod. He'd gotten enough on the plate to easily fill both of them and there was still a ton left. He hoped more people would come to eat it while it was fresh; it would be a shame to have to cure most of it. It was so much better freshly cooked]
Yeah it's a huge bird...probably the biggest one I've ever cooked. [though he'd seen bigger ones if griffons counted as birds]
Well, feel free to dig in! [he took some all purpose seasoning and put a tiny bit on some of the meat pieces close to him, sticking one with a fork and putting it in his mouth to munch on while he poured himself some water]
no subject
Did you know that men who cook for women are an incredibly sought after breed?
*Faye poured herself some water, and drank that before eyeing up the vodka and the rum*
Which do you like best?
no subject
[in fact he was reasonably sure he was the only of his kind, though he knew that wasn't what she meant. So musicians are hot and cooks are sought after? Well he must be doing pretty good, then. He chose not to being up the fact that he'd cooked it for two crews full of people and not just her, though]
Like best? Between those? [he looked at the two bottles, his nose wrinkling just a tiny bit. He'd only tasted one of those kinds of alcohol by itself once and it had been pretty nasty. He wasn't sure he could drink it without the flavor being masked by fruit juice]
Um, I have no idea... But alcohol without juice smells nasty. I can't imagine it'll taste any better than it smells.
[he wasn't outright refusing to try it, but he didn't want to get Faye's hopes up that he'd like it]
no subject
*She smirked as she said it, having no real idea about the temperature of a shark's blood, but hoping, with the way that she said it too, that he'd understand exactly what she was referring to. She then got two glasses and poured a small measure of rum in one of them, and a small measure of vodka in the other*
They smell horrible, I know. But they taste pretty good. I like the vodka best.
*She pushed the glass in front of him*
Go on, try a little. Give it a sip. Or even just a little lick.
no subject
[even though he wasn't familiar with the alternative meaning of hot-blooded, her tone and her mention of his gender helped him catch her meaning and he gave a small blush]
[he watched her poor the drinks, still not looking too enthused about it. He eyes them for a moment, then slowly stretched an arm out it try to rum first. He deliberately avoided sniffing it, having smelled it's rather unpleasant scent even before he brought it close] here goes...
[he raised the glass and took a tiny sip. A couple of seconds passed]
Bleagh! This stuff is disgusting! [it was all he could do to not spray it in the table, turning his head to spit. It tasted rotten to him yet somehow slightly sweet. Two flavors which were an awful mix to him]
Ugh....[he looked at the glass of vodka with a look that could only be described as wary, like it was going to attack him] I hope that stuff isn't as bad...
no subject
You should try it. You never know how good something might be until you try it...
no subject
Well alright... [he finally reached for it, bringing it to his mouth and drinking a little. He made a bit of a face, but at least he didn't spit it, swallowing it reluctantly]
Hrm...it almost tastes like nothing, but then there's kinda a subtle...nasty chemical taste. At least it's not as unbearable as the other stuff.
[he didn't think he could drink much of it without getting sick, but maybe if he sipped it slowly he could keep it down]
no subject
See? Not so bad. That's the stuff I mixed in with your fruit juice, that night we went out drinking and dancing.
*Faye just smiles at him for a moment before digging back into her bird meat, which was actually pretty good*
no subject
[he'd go back to happily drinking his water after that. It was good to know he could tolerate the stuff in small amounts, but it wasn't pleasant and he had no good reason to inebriated himself right now. There was more bird hunting to be done later]
[he continued to eat the food as well, it also tasting amazingly awesome since he was quite hungry himself]
I wonder if it's anything like the sap supposedly in the trees here? Some locals tried to sell me some earlier, saying was 'better than the crap they pass out at bars' or something like that. But I was busy, so I didn't buy any.
no subject
*Faye soon finished off the meat that he'd put on her plate, and she sat back and slowly sipped at the water. And water was fine, but it got rather boring after a while*
We should go get some and try it. If he we don't like, then we can sell it.
no subject
[he scratched the back of his neck, frowning a bit] there's only so long in willing to wander around trying to catch giant birds though. If we're still not successful after a while we can meet back up and get some sap
no subject
Yeah. I guess so. I think my heart would be in it more if I didn't think Grell might cut part of my loot.
*That, and she just really wasn't feeling the whole thing about running around after birds*
no subject
Just how much did she cut, anyway?
no subject
*She glanced doen at his question and shrugged*
Not sure. Guess we'll see when it happens.
no subject
Well hey, don't get too discouraged. If she cut a lot of it, maybe I'll share some of mine with you.
[there were only a few thjngs he needed money for right now, and if they did get any appreciable reward it would probably be far more than he needed. Besides, he was expecting a little income from weapons sales soon, too]
