[He follows Roxas' point and just sort of stares.]
Dunno. Looks like a whale, right? But it's floating in the air on land instead of in the water.
no subject
[He hums a bit, thinking.]
Well I've watched lots of parties. People like that, they're always pretty happy, I think.
no subject
[Right, he remembers that he's not supposed to get the kid drunk. Lea would kill him. So, as much as he would drag him into a tavern, Ning will look for a restaurant. The two are sort of indistinguishable on this island.]
What, and you don't get happy at parties? Why not? Or is that what you like - hangin' out in a corner watching?
no subject
I guess it's okay. I don't know, we always used to watch the heart-people do their things. Until I came here I didn't really...well I met some kids once but that's it. I didn't really know any.
[He was so jealous of them.]
no subject
[although they're still missing Leo. Sigh. Oh, hey, there's a restaurant with outdoor tables - perfect. It's too nice to sequester away in a dark, dank tavern just for food.]
Hungry for anything in particular?
no subject
Not really but um, I guess I can do it. I did drink at a party once, but I don't think Lea liked that much.
[Mostly because Roxas kept trying to pet him.]
Whatever works. I can try something new maybe!
no subject
[trying new things, one step at a time. Whatever the restaurant on the corner is serving, doesn't matter - it'll be an adventure.]
Man, what I wouldn't give for a place that had real manju. I haven't had one in so long, ain't found anyone in this world that knows how to make 'em.
no subject
What's a manju? Is it hard to make? I bet that cook could make it...
no subject
[excuse his drool]
It's the kinda thing that takes a lot of fiddly steps. I was never able to get it right, but I only really know how to stick things over an open fire to make food. [hang on...] ...what cook?
no subject
[He blinks a bit and tilts his head slightly.]
Well I know two cooks. The old man that kicked me in the head and the other guy that poisoned me that one time. He also made me sea-salt ice cream and that is my favourite!
no subject
The...no, never mind. I don't wanna know.
Think either of them would be able to handle a manju recipe?
no subject
Maybe! They can make sea-salt ice cream!
no subject
[and maybe some of that sea-salt ice cream too - he's never had anything like that]
Here, this looks like a good place to grab a bite. Huh, looks like you order at that window and then sit outside to eat.
no subject
[He pauses.]
But probably you should ask because I might not remember.
[He nods, it's a fine place to eat. He peers at the menu.]
no subject
[he checks his pockets for coins - he's got plenty. Any time he needs money and doesn't feel like asking Cynthia to dole some out, he just pries another diamond off the bell she gave him.
Hmm, there's a lot of fish on this menu. Not a surprise.]
Sandwiches...eh. Fried fish. Man, what I wouldn't give for a bowl of rice some days. Oho, look at that - barbecued eel and rice! Now that's what I'm talkin' about. [he glances at Roxas] Whatcha want? It's on me.
no subject
Is eel good? I never had it. Is the fried fish like the octopus that Lea fed me before?
no subject
no subject
no subject
This place ain't too bad, huh?
no subject
[He scratches his head.]
I'm trying to think if I can remember eating at a restaurant before.
no subject
[between that memory and that inexperience, he doesn't know what to do with you, Roxas.]
No way.
no subject
[He smiles though and shrugs a bit. It's a new experience that's all.]
When I was on the other ship we had a chef and Lea would make lots of sandwiches. We didn't really eat at other places before and before that Axel and I just had ice cream every day. I bought ice cream from the stand before, does that count?
no subject
Heh. It counts if you want it to count. I ain't never been to a super fancy restaurant either - roadside inns, yeah, but outside o' the court, I don't get to go out much. Back home, I mean.
no subject
Well I don't know if it does or not. Axel couldn't always come to have ice cream with me, sometimes he was away so I watched the sunset by myself.
[It sounds lonely, but he doesn't remember feeling lonely, just peaceful.]
We never do that anymore. I wonder if he'd like to sometime...
[He muses just a little bit, but right he wasn't talking about Lea at all. It's weird how his mind just took that tangent.]
I wasn't really allowed to anyway. The ice cream was a secret.
no subject
[oh look, food! The waiter brings over a tray and deposits two nice, large bowls of rice with delicious-smelling slices of broiled eel on top, and their drinks. It's the most alike to food from home that Gan Ning has seen yet, and he can't help the happy sigh that escapes him before he grabs the bowl to dig in.]
There we go! Heh! Tell me what you think, if you like it. If ya don't, I'll just eat yours.
