{Owain returned the grin, before blinking in surprise at the sword suddenly appearing-with that kind of trick, he'd better take Roxas seriously, drawing his own sword as his expression became a bit more serious-but not entirely so, as this was a friendly spar after all.}

Sounds like a good time to me. On your mark.

{Rather than advancing first, he took a defensive stance, preferring to anticipate his enemy's attacks than make his own first.}

[It's usually a good idea to take Roxas seriously. Owain's style is also complimentary to his own, he's the type of person to attack without much thought to it. He wraps both hands around the hilt of Oblivion and holds it steady.

He counted it off in his mind. One. Two. Three.

Roxas pushes off with his feet, charging in. He releases the blade from one hand and swings it diagonally from below.]

{Owain's eyes locked onto the blade as it came at him from below, one quick step back and another to the side evading it before he came forward quickly, trying to step behind Roxas' swing to strike at him at near the shoulder, of course, his blade was turned so he'd be cutting with the flat side, not the sharp one.}

[It connects and Roxas not only yelps, but he loses his grip on the keyblade. He wasn't expecting that, at all. He jumps backwards, putting distance between them, hissing a little at the pain spreading through him. Oh yeah, he's injured.

He holds out his good hand and the blade vanishes from the deck in front of Owain and appears back in his hand. Fortunately, he's ambidextrous.]

You surprised me!

{Owain's smile widened despite Roxas showing off his trick again, and he took back up his defensive stance.}

You're not going to be able to meet me with a reckless attack like that, you know.

I can do it. Don't worry!

[He takes a deep breath and holds out the blade before charging in again, this time coming from the side. He has picked up his speed. It's only a feint though, he's planning on stepping so he can be at Owain's back.]

{This time, Owain went to parry instead of dodging, and when he felt the blade not contact his quite as hard, he stepped forward into the contact, hoping to disrupt whatever move would typically come after the feint-though if Roxas was fast enough, he'd be able to simply get around him.}

[Speed is what Roxas is good at, and getting behind his opponents is what he does. He sidesteps around Owain and swings the keyblade at his back, naturally in a way that wouldn't hurt him seriously if he connects.]

{When Roxas suddenly was nowhere before him, Owain continued to try to move forward and out of the reach of the inevitable attack from behind. Unfortunately, he wasn't quite able to get far enough forward to completely avoid, stumbling to one knee for a moment before standing again, smiling widely.}

Good move! This time, though, I'll try attacking first.

{Now that he had some idea of how Roxas attacked, it was time to test his defense. After waiting a moment so Roxas could take on a more defensive stance, or at least prepare himself, Owain charged head-on, apparently making a reckless attack-but in reality, prepared to turn quickly on one foot once in reach, and swing from the side instead of overhead.}

[Fortunately Aya has prepared him a little bit in terms of defense and he's not as hopeless as he used to be. He's not good by any standard and defending himself. Oblivion is up where he's anticipating it, but swiping from the side is a surprise and without even thinking, he has Oathkeeper out to block the blow, the impact making the two keychains at the end rattle. It also jars his shoulder and he grimaces a little bit.]

{Owain's eyes go wide, backing off quickly and growling lightly. Two swords, the second appearing from nowhere, was a mean trick-but they hadn't set too many rules, and it was all the more of a challenge this way. Smirking a bit as he quickly tried to think of the best way to approach a man with two blades, he settled into a defensive stance again. If Roxas didn't attack, he'd come at him soon again, but if the other would like an opportunity to attack again, this was it.}

Ah! Sorry!

[He's quick to vanish the second keyblade.]

It was kinda instinct. [He ducks his head a little bit. He'd done it to Selphie before too.] Won't happen again, promise.

Actually, if you want, you can use both! Whichever way you usually fight, I just hadn't been expecting it.

{He'd almost finished developing a plan of attack, and wanted a chance to try it out.}

You sure? Alright...

[He gives his arm a good shake and summons his second keyblade again and gives him a grin before running in to attack. He's going to use the method that Aya taught him. Get in close, swing the first blade and follow it with the second as he turns his body.

If he connects Oathkeeper with Owain's blade, his strength will be significantly reduced to that blade because of the problems he's having with his injuries.]

{Expecting that sort of two pronged attack from Roxas, instead of parrying either blade, Owain leapt backwards once the first began coming down, before darting to the side of the second blade and again bringing his sword in from that side, aimed for Roxas' gut.}

Ah!

[He's surprised a little, but he scoots a step back and manages the block at the last minute, pushing Owain's blade away with Oblivion, following it with an attempt at a blow from above with Oathkeeper.]

You're pretty good!

[He's not the least bit upset about this.]

{Using the momentum of his blade crashing against Oblivion, Owain spun out of the way of Oathkeeper before rotating back that direction, attempting to slice at the arm wielding said blade.}

You're not so bad yourself!

[Roxas can't move out of the way in time and the blow hits, jarring his shoulder for the last time he can take. He drops the keyblade with another yelp and takes a few deep breaths.] Ugh...

[All of this moving around isn't good for him and when he touches his shoulder and feels dampness, he gives his head a shake.]

Gonna have to give up. Sorry.

That's all right, Roxas, not everyone can keep up with me.

{Granted, he didn't realize Roxas came into the sparring session injured. Sheathing his blade, he leaned forward to look at the shoulder, grimacing slightly.}

Should we get that wrapped or something, though? Honestly, I expected you to avoid it...

[He nods a little bit.]

I think I need a new bandage. It's okay, probably.

[He's going to have a nice new bruise on his arm though, but that doesn't bother him.]

I guess it's good thing it's just my shoulder.

Wait, a *new* bandage? Were you sparring injured?

{That explained a lot, but he felt pretty badly now-he probably wouldn't have fought with him had he known.}

Yeah, but it's okay! I can fight!

[Roxas can be very stubborn.]

I just got shot a little when I was escaping.

Well, maybe next time, we'll wait until you've healed up? I'm sure you'd be a great challenge at peak condition!

{Which was an exciting prospect-there hadn't been much in the way of competition left in Ylisse that he hadn't been training with for what felt like ages by the time they defeated Grima.}
