What: sailing as fast as they can to rescue Cynthia, and the rescue thereof. They'll try to save time by jumping through Empieza but...

The minute the scream came though his journal, Gan Ning was moving. There was no time to waste fiddling around, they had to set sail to find Cynthia before it was too late. He tore through any maps and information they had on the ship, looking for anything that suggested spiders. Her clue, the spider-webs, meant that was all he had to go on. Fortunately, other pirates around the docks totally knew which island that was, and aside from impressing on him the "don't go there" part of the legend, told him where to find it.

It did seem odd that no matter where they were, if they set sail for Isla Empieza, they'd make it there in a day or so instead of weeks. Gan Ning relied on that, even though he didn't do more than skim through the harbor before setting a new course for Manahana-lia in the far west of the land. Hopefully weather wouldn't be against them. They had a long way to go and didn't have Wan there to guide the winds in their favor.

Spiders, the other pirates said. There'd be large spiders and his crew would be killed. Nope, Xingba would not let anyone die if he could help it. But that meant they'd have to fight. Roxas needed to heal so he could guard the ship, but everyone else, well...

Let's hope they make it on time.

[It's pretty effective. He makes an odd face at the weirdness and nods a little bit.]

Yeah, but I read a couple of them and I didn't bring my games with me, remember?

[He really hadn't brought much of his things with him when he came to the new ship. After a moment he sits up and sets his book down to rub his forehead.]

I think sitting funny is making me dizzy.

[He tries to snatch it to see what it is. Not that he really objects to Roxas actually doing something intellectual, but he can't help but be suspicious at everything these days.]

It wasn't! It was just you looming over me like that, it was weird!

[Since he isn't holding it at that moment and he wasn't expecting that, he's too slow to catch Lea's wrist and stop him. The summary of the book sounds like a cheerful affair with a group of boys being abandoned on an island after their plane crashes and are forced to make some sort of civilization without adults around. He wasn't terribly far in the book yet, judging from where he'd had it open.]

[Lea frowns at the book, holding it at arms length like it's going to infect him with something.]

This is seriously what you're reading? Come on, this is boring stuff. School stuff, even. This isn't what guys your age should be spending time on.

[This is stuff Isa would read for class and meticulously take notes on, which Lea would then copy and memorize and bullshit his way through assignments with.]

[Roxas blinks at the reaction.]

Yeah, it was in with the books Ikki got me. Is it really school stuff?

[What he knew about school was very very little.]

Okay, then, what am I supposed to be spending time on?

[He shakes the book back and forth, glaring at it like it offends him.]

I don't know how you even got this far in it. I'd've passed out already.

[Roxas hums, giving him a perplexed look.]

I don't think I have any of those things Lea.

[He sighs.]

It's okay so far but I don't have a lot of things to do while resting. Marco said he was going to give me another book next time I saw him. Something about treasure.

I bet. I can't believe those guys read this stuff of their own free will.

[He sets the book back down on the deck, but he would rather have just dropped it.]

Too bad the captain doesn't want to stop on the way to the island. We need to pick you up some better reading material.

We're going to stop somewhere later right? Maybe then...

[Roxas had no idea he needed to read better things.]

Are you going to sit with me for awhile then? Since you took away my book...

[He's terrible at asking that question innocently because he can't stop the smile.]

I might be able to fit it into my busy schedule.

[Lea slides off him and flops onto the deck, folding his arms behind his head.]

Gotta save you from boredom somehow, right?

You have to save me, I'm going to die of boredom any minute!

[Well if Lea is just going to flop on the deck, he won't mind if Roxas does the same, only Roxas drops his head onto Lea's stomach instead.]

I might even die right here! You'd be trapped!

Eh, I could get out. You're not that heavy.

[Lea reaches down to shove his shoulder to prove it before folding his arm back under his head.]

You need to start eating something other than candy or you're gonna be a shorty forever.

[Lea can't help the content little smile on his face. It's kind of a relief to get the chance to fall back into his usual routine of lazing about and bugging Roxas.]

Nope you'll never get out because if I die of boredom I'll weigh umm....

Like a hundred more pounds and you'll be stuck here forever!

[He gasps, scandalized.]

That's a lie! I don't have to eat anything but candy! I have to hurry up and get really heavy to show you how stuck you are!

Your head isn't gonna be a hundred pounds. Anyway, if you get that big, someone can just roll you off, since you'll be round.

[Really, Roxas is already acting as a paperweight. Lea will blow away if the wind is strong enough. Toothless almost saw it happen.]

Hmmm do you think I would be?

[He tilts his head towards Lea curiously.]

Yeah, you would be. You're too short to weigh that much. You'll be roly-poly.

[Scientific fact.]

I don't think I want that. I just have to find another way to keep you here. Hmmmm....

[He is very seriously thinking about it.]

[Lea's perfectly content to stay where he is, anyway. It's a nice day, he's moderately comfortable, no crazy drama is going on...]

[He hums a bit and shrugs.]

I think I will go with lying on you. Worked so far!

You're the worst at coming up with evil plans. Possibly the worst ever.

[Lea chuckles and looks up at the sails and the sky.]

But that's fine.

I don't need an evil plan, just a normal plan.

[He makes another noise like he's thinking.]

I want to ask you something but I don't know if you'll tell me.

Hm? Go for it.

[He braces himself a little, though. Sometimes Roxas says things like that in relation to something completely innocuous and sometimes it's the preface to a bombshell. There's really no way of knowing which is coming.]

[It's really hard to guess whether Lea will find it a difficult subject or not. He would roll on his side to look at him properly, but then he'd pin his good arm and then he'd be stuck.]

You talked about school and stuff so um, I know you told me that story. But what was it like before that? You know, before you were a Nobody? You went to school? What else did you do? Did you have fun?

I did normal kid stuff, I guess. Playing with my friends, getting in trouble, that sort of thing. School was a hassle, but I went 'cause I had to.

[It's sort of hard to figure out what to say. Even stuff that seems incredibly dull to him is probably fascinating to Roxas.]

I don't really have any cool island boy stories like Sora and them. The city around the castle in Radiant Garden is pretty big, I guess, but it's mostly just...well...normal. If it was a little more exciting, I probably wouldn't have gotten myself into the mess I did.

In the city? Was it like Twilight Town? What kind of trouble did you get in to? Oh! How much school did you have to go to? Is it a lot? Did you play like the kids in Twilight Town did? We always saw them playing, remember? Hey, did you play Struggle?

[All of this boring life is incredibly fascinating to Roxas and he can't help but explode with a million questions all at once. It's strange he never asked about it before, actually. He never gave it much thought, but Lea always seems to know everything about normal lives and Roxas wants to know too.]
