PIRATES vs. NAVY BATTLE LOG

December 9th finds some new arrivals to this world, the same curious phenomenon that's been occurring for the past few months.
This time, however, the Navy is prepared -- or so they think.
They've got troops stationed around the island, and ships on the water to stop any arrogant, foolhardy pirates and would-be sailors from trying to make port.
So hit them with all you've got, but they're not going down easily...

[Codi makes a point of not touching him as she ducks out of the way. It's easier to just jump out between the fleeing teen and the Navy than to try and pull him out of the way, regardless, and in any case she wants to get their attention.]
Gentlemen! Please!
[Nope, bullets are not concerning. As if the muskets weren't inaccurate enough, that flash-bang has made quite the opening for her. Very appropriate entrance--hopefully it'll make up for this drab cape she had to improvise, or the fact that she's had to make due with the t-shirt and jeans she arrived in. She'll have to compliment this guy later for his sense of flair.]
No need for violence! This is all a huge misunderstanding, and if you'll give me a few minute of your time I'm sure we can sort this all out peacefully! Yes?
[The soldiers are still recovering, and Codi's forwardness is doing well enough at confusing them. Cross probably has a very nice window to escape.]

Well, really funny looking guns, but guns none the less!
They needed to be taken out a different way, a stealthier one than what she was doing. This whole plaza was too open.
He had this moment to run, but he couldn't. Whoever she was, she was walking right into danger. These guys didn't ask questions, they just shot.
So, he's right beside her now, already sliding a smoke bomb out from his utility belt just in case.]
I think they're more the type to shoot first and ask never.
[But, if she could actually talk them down, like he was hoping, this bomb wouldn't be needed.]

[A musket ball hurtles dangerously close to Codi's ear.]
--Hey! Come on guys, he's a kid! [She makes angry gestures at the fellow next to her with one hand--drawing their eyes away from the other, reaching into her bag for the crowbar poking out of its side.] Hardly a fair fight! But if that's what you want--
[Another shot. Codi braces at the noise, and the metal slug deflects around her, rather unintentionally. If she's surprised at this outcome she doesn't show it.]
--then let the Tyrant oblige!
[In the confusion, one of the Navy officers has wandered too close. Codi takes a swing with the crowbar. It connects with a dull thump--and suddenly the man is flying backwards with far more force than should be physically possible, accompanied by a sharp pop and the distinct smell of ozone. He goes tumbling back into his companions and they collapse spectacularly into the central fountain.]
[Codi seems significantly less confident now. She reaches to grab Cross's arm.]
Okay, now run.
no subject
Hold on did she just say the-?]
THE MILITARY?! You're joking right?! Why the frack are they shooting at us then!?
[Okay, not the time for questions considering they had just taken another shot at them. Weren't these guys supposed to take prisoners and not kill on sight? What had they done?!
There's no time to take this all in as one just goes flying and knocks the other soldiers into the fountain.
He's almost to stunned by the sheer force this girl hit with to even feel her take his arm. Cross has to shake himself into reality before he reacts.]
Uh, right!
[And instinctively, he takes her hand in his and he's just leading them in the run. She's no damsel but he's not leaving her behind either!]

[Codi keeps hold for only a few moments before she has to let go; with her adrenaline pumping like it is, it's only a matter of time before she builds up a substantial charge again, and she doesn't want to send this guy flying like she did the soldier. Anyway, it seems like he's learned to follow her lead, so hopefully the guiding hand won't be necessary.]
[She makes for the taverns almost on instinct, hoping to find one with an open entry they can duck into. The market would work better if the island wasn't currently under siege--Codi imagines the place is more or less abandoned, so there won't be a crowd to lose themselves in.]
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they think we're pirates!
no subject
Her question just kind of throws him for a loop.]
Aw darn it. I knew I shouldn't have downloaded that software for free. But, shooting us? Isn't that a bit drastic?
no subject
Very cute, but now is maybe not the best time to be a smartass.
[A beat; they're well into the taverns now, and she can see at least one with an open back window. That will do nicely.]
no subject
Right. Sorry. Just a little freaked, you know?
[He looks in the direction she is, to the tavern with the open window and moves towards it. Quietly he asks:]
So, mind telling me why they're invading this city?
no subject
[Codi props herself on the ledge and scrambles inside, finding that she's now sitting on top of a high counter. They're in a kitchen behind the main bar--not ideal, but at least they're inside.]
[She flashes a quick smile, just as the barkeep wanders in from the front. Codi is too busy giving her best gorm-face to notice him enter.]
But don't worry--the Tyrant will take good care of you!
no subject
[Oh My God, was she kidding him here?]
That's a bit over dramatic...I mean I'm upset too, but burning the place down?
[He goes in after her, only to look confused by her introduction.]
Wait, Tyrant? Aren't Tyrants generally a bad thing?
no subject
Yeah, well--just because I have the title doesn't mean I have to be bad, too, does it? [She chuckles casually, leans on the counter.] I lead people. Any other meaning they impart on the name is their fault, not mine. Convenient, considering--
[The barkeep clears his throat. Would the two masked figures like to explain what they're doing breaking into his tavern? Does he need to call in the Navy to sort this out?]
--What? No--no worries! We'll be in and out, no problem. Come on friend, time to leave...
no subject
So, it's like a super hero name or-?
[Oh woop, looks like they were caught by the barkeep. Cross lets out a nervous laugh before slowly getting up himself.]
Ah, right, right! Just doing an inspection is all! Nice sturdy tables you got. Okaaaay, all good. Bye noooow..
[Yup, he's good to go with this girl now before they get into trouble.]
no subject
[Codi's eyes go towards the still open window on instinct, but with how hard it was to squeeze the both of them in there in the first place, she's not sure they can get back out fast enough to escape unscathed. They might have to fight this one out. In the meanwhile, she continues their conversation as if nothing happened, stock-still in the middle of the room with careful, calculated glances passed between Cross and the approaching troops.]
...Yes, as a matter of fact it is. I am the Tyrant, leader of the organization of heroes known as HABITS. Heroes. [Pointed glance at military men with swords drawn. Are they backing down? No? Well it's worth a try.] It's our objective to help the everyman and train others like us to help them as well. What's your deal?
no subject
Ah, really? A leader of heroes, huh? No one would want to mess with you than.
[Was that working? Nope. Soldiers still looked rather pissed.]
And my deal is that I'm the hero Azure of Slake City.
no subject
[As soon as Cross nudges her arm, a small jolt of static sparks between them and Codi instinctively pulls away, trying to minimize her losses. Not that she was able to store much of a charge to begin with...so this is only slightly inconvenient.]
[The sudden movement also sets off the soldiers, who have had quite enough of this nonsense and charge in to subdue them. Codi splits, ducking to the side so she can maybe escape around them.]
Run! Now!
no subject
FUN.
His reaction is instinctive as he just hurls the smoke bomb at them. It explodes into giant cloud as he turns and follows along with Codi. Out the door he goes.]
What was that about!?
no subject
[The adrenaline also helps in quickly rebuilding that charge she just lost--all the better to scatter the Navy patrol idling outside. They ready their swords like the first group in preparation for the pair of heroes charging out the door towards them; but before they can finish telling them to halt, a single crack of electricity makes its way from Codi's outstretched hand to one of the extended blades and floors the bunch. The path once again cleared, she checks over her shoulder to make sure Cross has kept up and runs further down the street.]
I guess they weren't willing to negotiate like we were!
[Because obviously he was referring to the abysmal manners of the Navy and not her electric abilities, right?]
