*When Ace asked his question, Selphie threw a quick, worried, questioning glance towards Ikki. She wasn't about to voice it aloud, not in front of Ace, in case Ikki got embarrassed about it, but she was worried that maybe he wasn't quite ready to jump straight back into the fray. She looks up as he touches her shoulder, and she jumps up as quickly as possible, wobbling a little on her feet*

No, I'm ready to get back in there! Ace, Ikki, really, I can keep going!

*She takes a step or two forward then realises she is faced with the wall of fire, and she shakes her head at her annoyance of it. She can't just walk through it like they can*

H'oh, is that so? [Ace, anticipating Selphie, gestured ever so slightly with his pinky finger. A doorway opened in the flames, so she could pass. That didn't mean it wasn't ever-present as a reminder to the Navy, though. The moment Selphie would pass onto their side, it would represent the start of the fight again. Ace would curl his hands in and draw all the flames back into his body, skin tinted orange from the heat all about them.]

You heard her, Ikki.

[At that, Ace's fingertips and palms began to turn green, glowing brighter than any of the flames he'd brought up before.]

We'll take a stroll through the square and see if we know anybody. Then, we'll work on supplies. Got it?

[Ikki turns as Ace opens a path for her to cross, sending her an icy glare. He is very aware of how much energy she had to use to help him recover, even if she can still go on for a bit, he thinks that it will be just that "a bit" and after that the drainage will get to her. Sitting and recovering for even five minutes would be a great help, but no, the girl can't do that. Why take the cautious route when she can go and be reckless while he worries about her?

Fuck it. He told her to wait for a while, if she's expecting him to help her when her energy fails her she has another thing coming. Even if it costs her life, it was her own decision to be stupid about it. He says nothing though, simply conveying the message with a hard glare that spears her before he turns towards the soldiers.]

Whatever.

[He heard the orders and he will follow them, but he has nothing else to say. Instead, he chooses to take on his newfound anger thanks to Selphie's disregard of his advice, on the soldiers. After all, at the end of the line, nothing of this would be a problem if they weren't there. Was he supposed to wait for a signal to start attacking? Because he missed that part and just does his thing without further questions. The next time the soldiers are thrown through the air it's in a much more violent and vicious way, definitively breaking bones and even heads when they land again.]

Move aside if you have brains inside of those heads of yours.

[His voice is nothing but a dangerous growl when he talks to whatever soldiers weren't thrown around.]

*That look of Ikki's is hard enough that it feels as though it actually hurts - it wasn't what she expected when she walked through the makeshift doorway. She stumbles back, almost into Ace's wall of fire, but manages to regain herself before she does.

As they continue forward, Selphie lags somewhat behind, partially because of her energy levels, and partially because she really doesn't want to suffer any more of Ikki's anger. What the hell is he so angry at her for anyway? She healed him, after all. And maybe she didn't just sit around there and wait, but Ace clearly expected them both to get back into the fighting. And captain's orders were captain's orders.

She keeps her eyes on Ace's glowing hands, and is pleased to see just how much Ikki seems to have recovered with those attacks. She herself has to turn when she feels a hand grabbing at her ankle. A fallen soldier has crawled its way to her, but she swiftly hits him hard enough on the head with her nunchaku that he doesn't get back up again*

Heh. Ikki?

[Ace opened his hands wider and wider, the green glow of his palms suddenly bursting. Out from his fingers and his palms alike, nearly a hundred bright green spheres spread along the square and in front of the Navy pirates. For roughly fifty yards of ground, the spheres spread until they were between dozens and dozens of men.

They all stopped, blinking as they thought they were fireflies.]

Don't underestimate your crew! There's no greater insult than that!

[And then like fireworks, each ball exploded like a grenade, taking out a great deal of the square in one go.]

[He turns to eyes Ace for a moment when he hears that and snorts.]

Don't assume what I'm thinking. You're not a telepath.

[It's not about underestimating, in fact Ikki doesn't overestimate nor underestimate Selphie, he knows how much energy she has and how much energy she used to help him heal so quickly. There's no more to it, but he's not going to argue with the captain or with her, let them do whatever they want. If she gets in trouble Ace will be enough to save and help her again. There's no need for him there.

So he just continues advancing, quickly taking care of those soldiers who had been unfortunate enough to not be caught by Ace's attack. He doesn't outright kill them, but his anger burns brightly and wildly, sweeping them all with his fire.]

*At this stage, Selphie feels like she really aught to be doing more to contribute to these attacks. Ace and Ikki are both fun to watch - all that fire, different kinds of flame. She wants to add to this too, so standing behind both of them, she raises her nunchaku to cast a fira spell. What she manages is only a fire spell. It's not nothing, but it's not great. She's embarrassed by how little it does in comparison to theirs but she pushes on with it anyway.

Her steps become slower, as does her breathing. She knows she needs to stop soon but there's no way she's going to admit it to either of these two. She just hopes that they end up somewhere reasonably safe soon, eyes glancing between Ace and Ikki, hoping they won't blow up at each other*

[Frankly, Ace had been more intent on keeping Empieza relatively intact. As he and Ikki blew flames around, Ace kept calling them back into his body as he strode through the battlefield. He would raise his hand on occasion, his 'fire piston' ringing from his fingertips to put a man back down on the ground as soon as he tried to stand. Overall, they had taken over the area.

Ace set his left hand on Selphie's shoulder, grin spreading.]

You're doin' more than you need to, but that's good. Stronger warriors would run if they were you, Selphie!

Imagine how ridiculous you'll be when you get recover and get even better?!

[Ikki isn't aiming to destroy the place, technically not even to kill the soldiers. But his anger is running wild, and he doesn't care at the moment. If a soldier breaks his neck upon landing against a wall, or makes a hole in a roof... Ikki just doesn't care and keeps advancing.

And ignoring Ace and Selphie as much as he can. He doesn't need to get more annoyed or distracted at the moment.]

*Any compliment on her fighting or her stamina and Selphie is one happy camper, all the more so coming from her captain. When he puts his hand on her shoulder, she grins brightly, and she turns to Ikki hoping that he'll catch her look - the kind of look that says: See? I told you so. At least someone thinks I'm useful*

*Yup, that seems to have pep talked her. When she looks at Ikki again she wants to run out and yell at him to calm down, but she knows that will probably make things worse, so she appeals to Ace instead*

I think...we can probably take a bit more of a backseat now. Seems safe enough...

Well, now. You and Ikki are gettin' to be scary, either way.

[Ikki especially. Ace felt nothing but pride as he saw Ikki rampage. The guy may have been repressed with his words, but Ace knew when actions spoke louder. In that case, the Phoenix's fists were writing an essay on his feelings at the moment. It was a grim sort of exhibition, but one Ace was familiar with.

Though, he decided then to stable the pace. It would be easier if he deigned the two a task they could handle without a chance that they would be overwhelmed and hurt anymore. Plus, since he was in a good mood, he was feeling particularly charming.]

There's not much left to do here, though. Ikki! Selphie! I need you two to move on and clear the pier so the Sun can reach the docks. I need the ship to land in case we need to bar anymore movement from the Marines.

[The soldiers should feel grateful, really. Ikki isn't making sure that they are dead so they can actually get away with their lives if they feign to be dead or just stay down, trembling because those pirates definitively aren't normal, and they weren't prepared to face this kind of threat. They are lucky, the ones at the fort in Nuevo Empieza weren't so much. Ikki had made sure that none of the soldiers he crossed paths with were left mentally broken or dead. If the display of violence now is grim, the one back then, when he smashed heads against walls and floors, cracking them open like nuts and pierced chests with his fist was much worse.

Ikki keeps ignoring Selphie and her looks towards him, no matter what Ace may say, words didn't fill up someone's energy and hers was running low. Instead, he busies himself with making sure that the area is clear and that the soldiers won't move for a while unless it's to run away. When Ace calls for him, though, he turns to look at him and approaches to hear the next orders. To say that he's pleased to hear that Selphie is given the same orders as him would be an absolute lie, but once more he chooses to not say anything.

He's in a crew after all, as much as he normally prefers to work solo, and as much as he would prefer for her to sit and rest for at least five freaking minutes, he knows that he can't go solo like that. Specially not when the captain orders it. That doesn't mean he can't give her a look that says that he's not going to be her babysitter, though. She has a mouth and a working brain, she should know better than anyone when rest would do her well, if she doesn't... It's not his problem. And if she's so bad at judging herself that she gets killed... Then she better not return to life like Sora did because he would kill her again himself if she did.]

Roger. Anything else?

[Because once he starts moving he's not going to stop until he's done with his job. And he still has plenty of energy to run at close his top speed.]

You're not coming too?

*There's a look on her face that definitely says: Why the hell are you leaving me alone with this madman that obviously hates me? But, she grew up in the military, and she knows she has to do as she's told. The next look that Ikki gives her just frustrates her rather than upset her, and in return she pulls a face and sticks her tongue out at him. She at least feels a little more satisfied after she's done that - because, sure, that'll really show him.

Hesitantly, she drifts away from Ace and closer to Ikki, who has apparently already decided that this isn't a job for the both of them, it's a job for him and for her to trail around like a burden. She rolls her eyes at him, frowning with a hand on her hip*

Not yet. I wanna see if there's anyone else I know here. You guys can go ahead and take care of the pier--there oughta still be some resistance there.

[A blatant lie. Ace made sure everything from the pier and on was clear. The Sun, just the same, should have landed as well. What Ace wanted to do was move Ikki and Selphie away so he could draw up and fight the dangerous presence that had been tickling the back of his neck with weird vibes for the last few minutes. The same kind of guy he had to beat at the pier, too.

As Captain, it was his job to take the most dangerous battles and put his back to his allies. So, he turned away from the two and started walking back towards the main square.]

Those're your only orders! Get to it!

[Ikki simply nods and starts to move, not bothering with waiting for Selphie. He stops halfway, though, and stands in the middle of the street frowning, quite away from where he separated from Ace, enough that he's not seen.

He closes his eyes and concentrates on the energies around, searching, trying to see how many threats there were on the pier. And the answer is none. What he finds, though, is a particular strong threat in the direction to which Ace was heading by then. Another inconvenient of his dampened powers, he wasn't able to do the check before he left, having no chance to refuse Ace's order.]

Tch.

*Selphie follows on behind Ikki, trying to speed up so that she can catch up with him. She almost bumps into him, but manages to stop herself, just inches behind him. Taking a step back, she tilts her head as she watches Ikki, wondering what it is he's doing, like maybe he was waiting for something*

What's wrong, Ikki?

*She hadn't really wanted to speak to him, but figures she should at least ask, though her question is tentative, just in case he decides to take any more of his anger out on her*

[He eyes her silently for a moment. He's still angry with her and considers not answering or telling her to go on her own, since there's no real resistance she would be fine alone.]

Do you know what's one of the things that makes a responsible leader?

*She looks straight back at him, crossing her arms over chest, even pouting a little, before shrugging a shoulder - she's clearly not in the mood for questions*

Uhm...being organised? Looking after your team?

*Selphie does appear a little confused, not really sure what he's trying to get at here*

Exactly. Looking after your team. And what do you think would a responsible leader do when he notices a big threat in the range of his soldiers?

[He gets that she's not in the mood, but he doesn't really care. In fact he starts to move, back towards where they separated from Ace.]

Gather all the soldiers together and figure out a way to defeat the threat?

*Seriously, it's obvious, so why is he asking? Then he starts to go back, and she calls after him*

Hey, where are you going? We're supposed to go to the pier!

[He pauses and turns to look at her, an amused smirk on his lips as he shakes his head.]

And if the leader is the type of guy that attacks a ship alone to get supplies?

[He turns again.]

Go to the pier if you want, there's no one there. Our captain wanted us out of danger's way as he has all the fun with the big fish or the area.

What? Is that where Ace has gone? How do you know?

*Selphie picks up her pace and begins to follow after him*

What's the point in going to the pier? I need to come too to help!

I can sense the Cosmo of the living beings around me, and I sense no threat on the pier. However, there's a big one in the direction Ace is heading now.

[He stops and turns to her when she starts to follow.]

With your energy levels? What do you plan to do? You have barely enough energy left to heal scratches. Go to the pier and make sure that the Sun arrives well. It's enough that one of us disobeys his orders. And take a fucking rest!

[He resumes his way, this time running as fast as he can to go where Ace is, not bothering to wait for her.]

*She's just about to ask what the Cosmo actually is when he turns to yell at her. She stops dead still, alarmed at how he was shouting at her, and telling her what to do, sounding so angry. When he runs off without her, she thinks about following anyway for a moment, but changes her mind. She should follow orders, and besides, she doesn't want Ikki to see how upset he's made her. So she just saunters along to the pier on her own anyway(
