PIRATES vs. NAVY BATTLE LOG

December 9th finds some new arrivals to this world, the same curious phenomenon that's been occurring for the past few months.

This time, however, the Navy is prepared -- or so they think.

They've got troops stationed around the island, and ships on the water to stop any arrogant, foolhardy pirates and would-be sailors from trying to make port.

So hit them with all you've got, but they're not going down easily...

...well THAT had been unexpected. Fortunately for Zozo, that large chunk of rubble flying across the street and into a wall served as just the distraction she needed to trap the officers that had been hot on her trail. She waited for them to get into position from her hiding spot, and once they were within range she summoned a large magic circle beneath their feet, turning them into stone. Or at least that's how it looked. In reality she just conjured up stone around their bodies. The curse had a bit more magic than normal to it, but they'd be out of there soon enough.

"Thanks for the distraction." she called out from her hiding spot, slowly stepping out into view. "These navy guys are becoming a real pain."

At first, Ruby's attention was caught primarily by the magic. She almost squealed, but refrained - she hadn't seen anything quite on THAT level since Glenda had bailed her out on that rooftop.

"Oh, that was neat...!"

She stopped as soon as she started, once she got a good look at the attacker. She then immediately figured asking about the oddities of her appearance was pretty extremely rude, bit it back, and tried to focus back on the kind of awesome magic.

"...how did you do that?!"

There were quite a few oddities about her appearance, such as the bone jewelry, blue skin, and pink stitches holding her body together, but even if Ruby had asked Zozo wouldn't have taken offense. She was used to comments and weird looks. It wasn't a big deal.

"I'm a necromancer." she responded, giving her staff a little shake. "Staffy's good with magic and I'm good with curses."

Hopefully that was a good enough explanation, because already the stone holding the officers in place was starting to shake. It wouldn't be long until it started cracking.

"Necro... mancer?"

It took a couple moments for Ruby to kind of absorb all of that term. Once she did, or at least what she assumed it was and she took another look at Zozo, she just sort of...

Smiled. Sheepishly.

"O- oh, I see...!"

Congratulations, you managed to leave her a bit speechless. Truly an accomplishment.

Still, the fact that stone was beginning to shake was noticeable. She sighed and reached for Crescent Rose.

"We should probably get out of here before they get out, or their friends get here."

Or both. "Both" seemed about Ruby's luck.

If she needed an explanation, Zozo would be more than happy to provide her with one.

...right after they got the hell out of here. Judging by how hard those officers were shaking, they had about 30 seconds to run. Gripping Staffy tightly, she turned to Ruby and nodded in agreement. "I can take you someplace safe if you want. Just stick with me."

Hopefully Ruby responds, because she's not about to wait around for the navy to break out. That spell took a fair bit of mana to use. Not something she wants to spam.

"Safe! Safe is good!" she said, noting also that stone encasing wasn't about to hold much longer.

She could certainly hold her own with all that was going on, but it's not like she wanted to. She wasn't even clear and everything going on, much less wanting to throw down with the local military.

"Where is 'safe,' though?"

Crack.

"We can talk about that later." she said, beckoning to Ruby before she took off. There weren't very many places to take this girl, aside from a ship, but the Backwater Brig seemed like a good idea. It had a Nav they could use if worse came to worst, not to mention supplies. Paying for them would suck, but it's not like Zozo needed money.

After putting a bit of distance between them and the navy, Zozo glanced back to see if anyone was following them. When it seemed like the coast was clear, she slowed down a bit.

"Okay, I think we lost them... For now."

When they came to a stop, Ruby was ... actually a good deal ahead of Zozo. She skid to a halt, and doubled back, laughing nervously.

"Sorry! Uh, so where are we headed?"

Wow...this girl was fast. It reminded her of her friend Ali. Except Ali couldn't wield a giant scythe, but you know. Speedy attackers, so that's something.

"The Backwater Brig. It's a store. I've got enough money for supplies, and if we get cornered I can take you to a ship so you'll be safe."

Well, that certainly sounded acceptable. Though, she didn't quite understand...

"How are we supposed to escape from a shop in town? Shouldn't we head to the shore if we're going to do that?"

A fair question.

"There's a thing called a Nav there. We can use it to teleport to a ship."

"Teleport?" she asked, a little too loudly. Instantly, her eyes started to sparkle and she leaned in. Obviously realizing she'd spoken too loudly, she dropped her tone a little ways. "Like, real, honest to goodness teleporting? That sounds so cool!"

Zozo winced at the loudness, taking a step back as Ruby leaned in more. Nothing personal, just the closer someone is to her the more likely they are to touch her. And she really hates being touched. "Yep. I've never used it before, but it sounds like a good idea."

Ruby was actually sort of excited now in spite of the possible horrible danger awaiting her. Enough that she didn't even really notice as Zozo put distance between them.

"Well, what are we waiting for, let's get going!"

That...was unexpected. Zozo blinked once, unsure of what to make of Ruby's reaction. She seemed pretty damn excited about this teleportation thing, despite the fact that the Navy quite obviously had it out for them. Not that she was worried, but it's the principal of the thing.

...ah well. No sense worrying about it now. She shrugs it off before nodding to Ruby. "Yeah. Just let me lead the way. The town isn't too far off from here and I know a shortcut." And like that she's off...only to stop once again. "Oh, and don't go so fast this time, okay? "
