Masquerade Ball - Totally not an ambush

[Thash's tenseness didn't come from feeling threatened by Namur in paticular... he had no territory here and actually found Namur's sharklike appearance comforting. A sharklike guy that walked on two legs with webbed hands and hair... heck, Thash would wonder if they were related if they had been from the same world. No, he was tense because of being around others in general. Being around others never ended up good for him so company made him edgy...especially a large gathering like a party]

I'm... Thash.

[He finally gave his name with a bit of reluctance. He looked at Namur's hand for a second before sticking out his own to shake it - it was webbed too, and tipped with small black claws]

I'm not worried about it. I'm pretty used to bumps.

Thash, huh? Got some kind a meanin' where yer from?

[Namur shakes, then slaps him five and hops up on the rail itself, balancing in a crouch over the dark waters below.]

[He watches Namur jump up, turning back towards the water himself and looking down at it as he spoke]

An old lady decided to call me that when I was little. Maybe because I thrashed around a lot at first and it sounds close to that? I didn't have a name so I just accepted it. Speaking of where I'm from... people like me aren't normal. People don't freak out when they see me here like they did back home. And you... look kind of similar to me. Are people like us normal here?

[Namur nods during Thash's story.]

Ain't much differnt from my Ma. She's an orphan, y' know? People started callin' her Sango cuz she's pink like a damn coral. Sheheh!

[Then he gets quiet a second, his expression darkening.]

Normal? Who gives a shit? Normal accordin' t' who? Humans? Tch.

[He hops down off the rail to turn and rest his elbows on it, echoing Thash's posture.]

Look, y' are what y' are no matter what happens. Can't change it, certainly ain't gotta 'pologize for it. Wasn't a choice y' made. But what y' can do is focus on bein' the most awesome you [he gently punches Thash's shoulder] y' can be. Bowl 'em over with it. Catch someone starin' at yer fins, show 'em off. They cringe at yer teeth, jus' grin all the wider cuz they only wish they could have teeth half as sharp. Catch me?

[Thash blinked in surprise at Namur's unexpected suggestion. Be PROUD of what he was? Show it off? The thought had never crossed his mind. Sure, some of his shark features came in handy, but he was so used to being told he was a freak or a monster that he'd never considered actually liking what he was. Yet, Namur's encouraging punch and personality made him want to believe it was a fine idea.]

That's...that's good advice. Thank you, Namur.

[hed try it, but it might take some self-convincing to get it to really sink in. He thought of changing the subject though... He was starting to get the feels]

Say, do you like swords or any other kind of weapon made of steel and wood? I used to make and sell them in my world. I'm think of doing the same thing here, but I'm not sure if people would be very interested.

[He shrugs.] Weapons ain't my thing. But I'll keep my ears sharp for someone lookin' for shit like that. Got any already made? If yer willin' t' try special orders that's easier cuz people's always lookin' for someone t' make weird shit t' work with their powers or whatever. Sheheheh!

No, I don't have any made right now. I could do customs orders, yeah. If you hear of someone looking for something like that just let me know.. Those weird journals are pretty useful for keeping in touch

[he stopped leaning in the railing, standing up straight and turning towards Namur with a rare smile]

Well, I'd better get going or I might miss the ship. It was nice to meet you, though.

[initially he'd thought it would be a waste of time to come to the party, but he felt differently now]

[Namur claps the boy on his back.]

[Thash wasn't really used to being touched so the slap in the back came as a surprise, but he liked it and smiled again]

[he climbed up into the railing and dove into the water smoothly. A moment later his hand came up for a few seconds to wave to Namur, but then it disappeared back into the water and he swam away]
