What: The Masquerade Ball + Ambush (12am)

[A quick look from the party, to Corsair, and then to the Sun before Mako looks back over to Roxas. Keeping an eye on things is his main concern, but this kid’s a good distraction from letting his mind focus on something that’s not stressful.]

No, Marco told me I should stay here and watch the ship. It isn't the kind of infiltration I'm used to, and Lea pointed out I'm not really suited for it.

Where’s your friend at? That Sora guy. [Guessing he’s a friend, Mako’s still working out just what Roxas told him about that.]

[Roxas blinks a little.] I dunno. Sora's not really my friend but he probably went to the ball with everyone since I don't see him here. I mean maybe someday he'll be my friend...

It's okay, Lea is my best friend and he'll always be my best friend. So if Sora's not my friend it's okay. Since I'm going to disappear, it might be better. He and I are the same person after all. [He pauses.] Well, supposed to be.

Both. I have to go home for it to happen, but yeah when I get back I'll disappear, back into Sora. [He pauses for a moment to take a breath and gather his thoughts.]
See, I'm a Nobody. I don't have a heart. Sora lost his heart somehow a year and a half ago and there I was, I appeared in Twilight Town. Sora got his heart back, as far as I know. Naminé made his memories go all over the place, but I don't really know what that means. Then after a year they came for me because Sora is sleeping and he need me to be a part of him to wake up again. Everything I've done...
[His fingers clench into fists on his lap.]

But if this Sora’s here and awake, and you’re here and not disappearing, then what makes you think it’s going to happen at home?
[He should probably drop the subject, but the detective side of Mako’s brain wants to logic it out.]

No, no heart. I don't know how Nobodies are alive. Maybe I'm not really. Lea said something that maybe I made my own heart but we don't really know anything. I shouldn't be able to feel anything, but I do. If I die, I disappear completely. Heart-people don't do that. They leave a body behind. I'm like...a part of someone else.
[Roxas isn't sure he's explaining it very well.]
Sora's from a different time at home. I'm not sure how that works. He's from the time after I've disappeared, lost within him I guess. I'm weird for a Nobody too. I was different from the rest of them. I feel things for some reason and I don't remember being Sora at all. I had no memories. So all I remember is the last year and a half, sort of. Bits and pieces.

[Mako’s starting to get the picture on what a Nobody is and how Roxas isn’t exactly his own person. And that it’s making sense is actually unnerving. Because that should be crazy talk coming out of the kid’s mouth right now.
And of course he hasn’t even the slightest idea on how to address that thanks to being probably the most socially awkward firebender.

[Roxas can at least agree with that. It is definitely messed up. At the rest he blinks and exhales a little, kicking one foot idly.]
