Giant Spiders Oh My

What: sailing as fast as they can to rescue Cynthia, and the rescue thereof. They'll try to save time by jumping through Empieza but...

The minute the scream came though his journal, Gan Ning was moving. There was no time to waste fiddling around, they had to set sail to find Cynthia before it was too late. He tore through any maps and information they had on the ship, looking for anything that suggested spiders. Her clue, the spider-webs, meant that was all he had to go on. Fortunately, other pirates around the docks totally knew which island that was, and aside from impressing on him the "don't go there" part of the legend, told him where to find it.

It did seem odd that no matter where they were, if they set sail for Isla Empieza, they'd make it there in a day or so instead of weeks. Gan Ning relied on that, even though he didn't do more than skim through the harbor before setting a new course for Manahana-lia in the far west of the land. Hopefully weather wouldn't be against them. They had a long way to go and didn't have Wan there to guide the winds in their favor.

Spiders, the other pirates said. There'd be large spiders and his crew would be killed. Nope, Xingba would not let anyone die if he could help it. But that meant they'd have to fight. Roxas needed to heal so he could guard the ship, but everyone else, well...

Let's hope they make it on time.

[ She chuckles. Seriously, memory gap advice coming from the boy who STILL doesn't know her name. ]

Don't worry about me, kid. I won't try too hard. Besides, the last clear memory that I have was giving our captain that lotus flower. I gave up trying to remember anything after that.

[Laugh all she wants, Roxas is a total expert at dealing with memory loss!]

It's probably okay now right? I mean, you came back to the boat and that's safe. Hmm. If you're scared, that's okay. I was scared when I came back.

[Maybe he still is a little bit.]

Honestly? I'm not scared. I mean, I was when I first woke up in that dark room, and when that giant spider caught me by the leg, I thought I was going to die then and there. Next thing I knew, I started hearing voices. Familiar voices. Suddenly everything got better from there.

I dunno, I guess having memory loss isn't as bad when you're surrounded by the people you care about.

That's good then. Being scared isn't really a good thing.

[He seems to think about that. It would be a lot more frustrating if he didn't have Lea around so he nods in agreement.]

I guess so? Well they can remember things for you. [A small hesitation before he shakes his head.] But not me. Don't ask me to remember stuff for you.

Oh Roxas, I won't ask you to remember things for me. [She motions to his shoulder.] You have your own things to worry about.

[He blinks a little and glances down.]

Oh, right, that. It's okay! I saw a doctor and everything and he said it will be okay if I rest it and wear this thing for a month. It really sucks because I can't use my arm and I like using my arm for things, but I have to be careful because there might be some damage we can't see.

Well...I guess it's not as bad as getting stabbed with a huge knife. We didn't even go to a doctor to have it looked at. All we did was have Gaius clean it with Captain's rum then patch it up with some cloth bandage.

[ If you look carefully, you can actually see the knife on display on her shelf. Next to the bottles of glitter goop. ]

I didn't want to go to the doctor! Lea told me to because the captain was kind of worried when I told him I dropped my keyblade.

Of course Ning would want you to get it looked at. He takes care of his crew no matter what. That's what I love about him.

[Now he's curious about something. He sits on the edge of her bed and tilts his head at her quizzically.]

Do you think he would do something like that if I just fell asleep and didn't wake up?

[anelegantmyth]

Do what? Care?

[heartismyown]

Yeah. I mean, I guess that's what I mean. Something like that.

If you were to fall asleep and never wake up, as long as you were still breathing, we'd wait for you.

[He smiles a little and nods his head.]

Marco told me that too once. He said he'd stay with me, even if I didn't wake up.

We're a family, Roxas. No one gets left behind. That's how HazMat works.

[It might seem like a random question, but he's actually kind of afraid of that happening because it happened once before. He frowns a little at her choice of words though.]

I don't understand that.

[anelegantmyth]

Understand what?

[heartismyown]

Family.

[He frowns at her some more, shying away from her. Gan Ning said it wasn't like this.]

...What do I have to do?

What do you mean "what do you have to do"? You don't have to do anything.

Marco said that to be part of a family you have to sacrifice. Sometimes missions will come along and you have to do them, even if I don't want to leave Lea behind.

[He's frowning a little because missions isn't really something he wants to do.]

I guess I can do missions for two people though.

[Hopefully he can manage his time well enough. Gan Ning said it wasn't like that here, but if it's a family, then it must be. They must want him to do something to earn his place in it. It all makes sense to him.]

[Roxas frowns a little more and stares at her.]

What do you mean? He said I just have to do some things and I'll be accepted like before.He always said it was like being family there.

[anelegantmyth]

Well there is not here, Roxas. Whatever Marco had you do, ended the day you left the Spades. We're a different crew and our definition of family isn't the same as theirs.

I didn't do anything yet, he said he'd tell me when he had a mission for me to do.

[He blinks though, wide-eyed.]

It's different? How is that possible? I mean, candy is the same wherever you go. What the word means doesn't change...
