Battle On Th' High Seas

Who: Anyone who wants to partake
Where: In the waters between Turvey Top and Ebony & Ivory
When: October 17th 2pm-6pm
What: Battle, mayhem, treasure and piracy
Warnings: Violence
Status: Very open!

Around 1:45pm, ships gathered in the waters between Turvey Top and Ebony & Ivory will see the gigantic Naval frigate, the Argustos, chugging through the calm waters to destinations unknown. Close by and running a little ahead on the wind is a Naval scout ship, caravel class, named Pantopes.

Sharp eyes will be able to spot the ships on the Argustos' tail, though, and the giant frigate will weigh anchor to prepare for the attack of the Corpse King and his five ship Armada, made of three caravels and two brig sloops.

The Corpse King himself has a brig sloop, Achlys and will be at the back end of the battle, providing cover fire.

Feel free to attack to your heart's content and loot wherever you wish. There's great treasures there for the bold and daring, and most unpleasant deaths for the unwary.

Just don't move.

[Roxas is in a good position, Zoro at his back but there are more people in front of him then behind him and that's what he wants. He tightens the grip on his keyblades and takes a deep breath.]

Here we go. Don't move.

[There's only a moment before several columns of light are appearing out of nowhere and causing destruction, tearing up planks on the deck, smashing the railing and causing devastation among the ranks, leaving many of the soldiers in front of him wounded.]

[haha whoa holy shit. Zoro immediately freezes, letting the columns of light pass around him without touching him. Nooo problem, kid, just gonna stand here, not getting in the way of that.

It definitely clears the crowd, but it also makes for much more uncertain footing on the deck around them. Oh well. They have a moment in which to take a breath and get ready for whatever's next.
]

Effective. You okay?

[personal profile] heartismyown 2014-10-20 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a good thing they have a moment because Roxas needs to catch his breath after that. The only downside to doing it is how tired he gets in this place. It never used to bother him before.]

I can only use my magic twice so I have to make it count. Well the light magic anyway. I'm fine though.

[He also vanishes Oathkeeper while he's at it.]

[dammit, he didn't sign up for protecting damsels today.

Zoro glances back at him
]

What crew are you with? I can get you back to your ship if you need a break.
heartismyown: (Girl - Smile)

[personal profile] heartismyown 2014-10-20 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Protect nothing! If Zoro dared suggest it, Roxas would show him exactly who's a damsel in distress here. He blinks at the question but then remembers the whole meeting the old woman and the curse and everything. Right.]

I'm a Hazmat. I don't need a break, I'll be fine in a second. We've met before!

[Everyone should be impressed he remembered.]
yourotherleft: (plain talk)

[personal profile] yourotherleft 2014-10-20 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
[right, those guys.

...huh?
]

Wait. Are you...

[wait for it. WAIT FOR IT]

...Roxas' sister?
heartismyown: (Girl - Shy)

[personal profile] heartismyown 2014-10-20 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Roxas snorts softly.]

Nope! Just Roxas. I met an old lady and she cursed me when I got mad at her for bugging me. So I'm a girl for now...

I can't have any family anyway, I'm a Nobody.
yourotherleft: (contemplating)

[personal profile] yourotherleft 2014-10-20 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
..............oh.

[strangely, he gets it. He remembers someone on the journals once talking about some island where men got turned into women (and let's never go there Luffy, ever), so he's able to understand that right off the bat. He's good. Zoro shrugs and turns his attention back to the regrouping Navy, who might be ready for another round.]

Bad luck there, then. Hope it wears off. Is that why you look like you're not fighting at full strength?
heartismyown: (Girl - Pigtails)

[personal profile] heartismyown 2014-10-20 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods, it is bad luck but really it's his own fault. Him and his temper. He grips Oblivion tighter.]

I'm trying but I just turned like this and moving is really weird. You know - well, I guess you don't, but girls move differently and we kinda got involved here before I could practice.

[He sighs a little.]

And I can really feel the weight of my keyblade. I never noticed before. That's why I'm sticking to one unless I have to. At least my magic hasn't changed.
yourotherleft: (badass grin)

[personal profile] yourotherleft 2014-10-20 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
[the smallest grin tugs at Zoro's mouth, around the sword hilt]

Sounds like a good way to train up. Girls can be just as strong as guys, don't let that stop you.

[of course, he's a level above so it's easy for him to say. The frigate is heavily-armed and staffed and there are plenty of fresh troops coming up from below-decks to try to repel the invaders.]

We got work to do here, for our crews. Let's go!

[he springs off without waiting, cutting right into the front line and bowling them over, sending men flying this way and that.]
heartismyown: (Girl - Smile)

[personal profile] heartismyown 2014-10-20 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I won't! I'll figure it out, really!

[Roxas nods, here they come indeed. He pushes off after Zoro, barely a step behind. If there's one thing he's been trained on all this time, it's fighting. He's comfortable swinging his keyblade into this person or that person as long as they're the enemy to him. Some of them are challenging and have some skill, enough to trade blows with. Those are the more interesting fights.]
yourotherleft: (shit the marines)

[personal profile] yourotherleft 2014-10-20 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[the keyblade is enough of a sword to him for Zoro to be able to work easily alongside, moving around Roxas smoothly and swinging in a similar rhythm, blocking, parrying, and cutting. His sense of strategy, however, is somewhat lacking. He doesn't even know if anyone else from his crew has made it over to start searching for the shard, or what's the best way to do so, all he knows is obliterating every foe that comes at him.

And then his foot sinks into a cracked portion of the deck, and he's stuck. Oops.

[personal profile] heartismyown 2014-10-20 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
[It's the kind of strategy that works for Roxas. He's pretty good at being a fighter. While Zoro works on his problem, Roxas ups his game a little, getting between him and the Navy guys. He might not be as skilled as Zoro, but he's more skilled than some of these people, and he can handle a bunch of enemies at a time. It's useful at the moment. Even though he's not as fast or smooth as he'd like, it's apparent his fighting style is aggressive, especially when one of them grazes his arm and he doesn't even flinch, just turning his attention to whacking him with the keyblade instead. He'd rather take people out before they get him, it's a strategy that mostly works for him.]

[personal profile] yourotherleft 2014-10-20 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Thanks, Roxas. Zoro is momentarily pissed at himself - and the deck - for making him look like an idiot, but he can still fight with one foot planted. Anyone who thinks he's suddenly weak and swarms on him finds that he's just as powerful as ever - and if he doesn't get them, Roxas does.

Finally, there's a break in the action just long enough for him to slice across the wood and free his foot, and he takes out his annoyance on the next Navy guy to try to take advantage of it. It's an officer, a commander of some rank who also has two swords. Zoro moves easily around Roxas to pick up where he left off, grunting behind the sword in his mouth a sort of 'thanks' as he goes.

[He just nods at the grunt, too focused on what he's doing anyway. It's the kind of fight where people are challenging him, which makes it interesting. Most of them aren't very good in comparison to him but an officer appears and targets Roxas. The others let him as he moves in on the attack.

Suddenly Roxas finds himself on the defensive, which for him is a horrible place to be. He can't catch his footing well enough to turn the tide. Even the reappearance of Oatheeper does nothing for him. He's being overwhelmed by someone. It's pushing him to take steps backwards, to put space between him and Zoro as well. This man is particularly good. It's bound to happen, Roxas can't possibly be the best in the world, but it's only serving to make him frustrated. He begins to hit harder, but it's a little wilder too. Anger doesn't really help his skills all that much.]

[Zoro, for his part, is really enjoying his challenge, even though it isn't much of one, but he's got a corner of his senses trained on Roxas, just in case. He's not the kind of man to interfere in another...er...person's fight, especially if it'll help them get stronger, but this is also not the kind of battle where letting the Navy kill off pirates just because they're not your crew is a good thing.

He slashes hard to push off his own opponent and then twists his body, bringing two swords over the third and then spiraling out of the stance to unleash a 108-Pound Cannon across the deck. It's an invisible attack, a rush of cutting air, but if Roxas needs to, all he has to do is shove his guy backwards into it. Other peons are already falling along the path of the Cannon, cuts and slashes appearing on their bodies as if out of nowhere.

The officer he was fighting sees this and yelps something about a Demon's Egg, about a pirate who used that same attack. Zoro turns to glare at him, and grin.
]

No, I'm not her. That's no Demon's Egg, that's just me.

[and he launches himself at the surprised officer with renewed vigor]

[At that point, Roxas is really grateful for the chance or the help, if it's meant that way and he does launch himself at the man in a surprise attack to shoulder check him into its path.

Zoro definitely deserves his thanks after this. He whirls around again to take on some more men but the numbers are thinning at last. There can only be so many men on this particular ship after all. It's just as well because this is something of an endurance run and he's going to reach his limit sooner or later. He can already feel the twinge in his shoulder.]
yourotherleft: (grah)

[personal profile] yourotherleft 2014-10-21 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[true, there are a finite number of Navy men on this ship. Zoro manages to knock his opponent out and whirls to take on the next to find...there aren't any.

He backs over to where Roxas is, keeping his swords at the ready
]

You guys are here for the shard too, huh? Where do you think they're keeping it?

[personal profile] heartismyown 2014-10-21 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Roxas is grateful for the break and rolls his shoulder a few times.]

Yeah, I think that's what we came for, but I dunno. I think Gaius is going to get it. I'm not good at finding stuff, or remembering to get stuff. I just take people out.
yourotherleft: (holy shit look out)

[personal profile] yourotherleft 2014-10-21 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[it occurs to him, then, that the guy he saw swoop across the deck and shoot lighting a little while ago is nowhere to be seen.]

...shit! If he gets it before I do...!

No offense, Roxas, but I'm after it too and I ain't gonna let anyone else get it.

[but rather than hurt any fellow pirates, he's just going to race them to it. Which means abandoning Roxas where he is and racing across the deck to the forecastle. What? It's a door into a cabin, it's probably the place where they keep treasure! Even if it's completely in the wrong direction.]
heartismyown: (Girl - Smile)

[personal profile] heartismyown 2014-10-21 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's okay, Roxas understands and is not offended. He'll do his job and man the deck until Gaius tells him it's time to get out of there.]
