PIRATES vs. NAVY BATTLE LOG

December 9th finds some new arrivals to this world, the same curious phenomenon that's been occurring for the past few months.

This time, however, the Navy is prepared -- or so they think.

They've got troops stationed around the island, and ships on the water to stop any arrogant, foolhardy pirates and would-be sailors from trying to make port.

So hit them with all you've got, but they're not going down easily...

Haytham was being unreasonable. Judging his abilities based solely on that first encounter was leaving out the full measure of what Ratonnhnhaké:ton could do. His tongue was not as swift as his father's and he was left to his own devices by the time it was over.

With a shake of the head, he decided that he'd follow his own path, just as he'd already decided to.

Calling upon the spirits, he slipped out of sight. The growling of the wolves was keen upon his ears. Their strength became his strength as he moved swiftly across the grounds. Ratonhnhaké:ton tried to keep to one side as Haytham tended toward the other, but when he got the opportunity to go on ahead, he took it.

This was where they were taking them. This weather worn building was still sturdy beyond it's years. Taking the liberty of crawling through a window, he swiftly found a hiding place before his power subsided. The interior was sparse but a set of barrels near the wall did the trick. The prisoners were being led further inside, down a hallway. Now whose method had been superior.....?

Haytham, unreasonable? Never!
Still his methods were as sound as any other. The troop of soldiers led him right to the camp though he waited outside to get a look at the lay of the land instead of rushing straight in. The building was old but made of sturdy stone, it almost looked to be an abandoned mill of some sort that was being commandeered for a make shift prison. There was a mass of ruined wood in the creek, nearly blocking the small stream. A collapsed water wheel perhaps? What ever it was climbing up this pile was an easy way to make it to the roof and from there he could see a watch tower in the distance. That was were the signal would have to come from.
The stones of the building were sturdy enough but the wooden roof was beginning to show it's age just as the water wheel had. As Haytham moved across it the boards groaned and shifted, there were even a few holes here and there that needed to be avoided so as not to fall... but would make for an easy way inside.
He considered making for the tower first but he did need something to light a signal fire with... He slipped over to the nearest hole that was large enough for an entry and dropped down to one of the support beams holding the ceiling up. Perhaps inside he could find some gunpowder or...

OR!

A strange gentleman wearing a wolves head cloak hiding behind some barrels!

When did he? How? They hadn't passed by each other he was certain of that!

There is nothing wrong with rushing right in, old man. The location had been a clever solution on the part of the Navy. The place was not near the hub of the town, and the lessor amount of foot traffic meant they could go about as they pleased in relative seclusion. It would be easy to simply let Haytham inside- but he'd made his choice. The people would be freed one way or another. If he was working solo, he wasn't going to shy away from it.

The problem remained that he was unsure of how many were stationed here. keeping to his position for a little longer, he noticed when the same men that had brought the next batch of prisoners had left- probably to go round up others.

They couldn't be keeping them back there unguarded. Standing up... he inched toward the hallway.

Voices were being carried into the room from somewhere he couldn't see. How many were there? There were no rooms jutting off from the hall- so once he took that step into it, there would be no more cover.

No one ever thought to look up, not even that wayward assassin apparently. It would be so easy to drop down on him now and finish this... but a truce was a truce. It would be honored.

Amateur. You see this is the problem with rushing straight in. By taking the time to scout out the area the Grand Master had found the entry point that gave him the best advantage. From the rafters Haytham commanded an excellent view of this room and by moving along the beams he could travel through the hall, via a hole in the wall, and secret himself in the next room just as easily.

The people were being held here by five guards, one of which seemed to be of unusual brutish strength as he carried the largest battle ax. Only five inside but there was an entire troop outside still to deal with. Now... what would be the best way to approach this without involving the civilians?

Slipping into the hall way, he kept his steps as light as possible, trying not to give away his position. As he neared the end, he pressed his back towards one wall. A shadow that was cast over the floor was decidedly close to the opening. In a few minutes a uniformed officer was close enough for Ratonhnhaké:ton to grab, which his did. His hidden blade slid from it's sheath as he buried it in the other man. Then he took the time to pull him into the hallway, and put the body at rest on the ground.

Unfortunately this action did not go unnoticed by the other four guards.

"Whose out there!?" One of the men shouted, the brute with the battle ax tested the rod for it's strength, looking like he was itching for a battle.

"I'll alert the others!" Another one shouted and then Ratonhnhaké:ton knew he couldn't stay hidden anymore or allow for that man to leave the building.

"You will do no such thing," He entered the room, and set his wolf pack on three of the men, leaving only the largest for himself as they tried to fight off the canine apparitions. The close quarters were not to his advantage, as he was worked closer into a corner. The length of that ax made it difficult to use a shorter range weapon. Finally getting his hands onto the handle of the ax, he struggled with the man. The naval lackey was as strong as he was ugly, with one shove he threw Ratonhnhaké:ton off the ax then struck him with the blunt end.. sending Ratonhnhaké:ton reeling.

The assassin was sent reeling as the battle ax was twirled over the large soldier's head, fully intending to finish that brash man now that he was off balance.

Again, it was briefly considered that this could all be ended now and he would not even have to lift a finger to see his enemy killed but...

The room suddenly filled with a dense smoke. A bomb dropped into the room belched out its payload making it impossible to see... unless of course one had a certain skill that make it possible to see the outlines of enemies and allies even through the distraction. The guard did not have this advantage though and his swing went too high, just missing the assassin's head, though likely he still felt the breeze the passing blade would have created.

There was a muffled cry as the Templar's blade sunk deep into the soldier's back, propelled by the momentum of leaping down from the rafters, but he never saw it coming and had no chance to react.

The smoke bomb did not last for too long before it dissipated. Those were really only good for a distraction after all. Haytham looked to the assassin then and could not resist the smirk that came to his lips.

"I believe that is the second time I've saved your life."

You are welcome. Now! Back to business!

"We might be able to slip these people out of this old mill but getting them past the watch tower will be the most difficult part. We'll have to see to the man on watch first."

He hit the ground hard, there wasn't any time to assess the damage before the axe wielder was bearing down on him. Just when it looked like he'd be vulnerable to the swing of that massive weapon, a dense smoke blanketed everything.

Choking a bit on the initial intake, Ratonhnhaké:ton tried to use it to his advantage. The whoosh of the axe was too close for comfort, and soon as he was certain it was no longer lingering overhead he moved to the other side of the room.

After all that, he was faced with the smug expression on his father's face. In his haste to wipe it off before, Ratonhnhaké:ton was making some critical errors.

"...................."

Yeah, don't hold your breath waiting for a thank you. At least this time he didn't bombard you with a flurry of accusations.

"We can not risk being spotted now." .. But how can I convince you that I've got this? Especially now. Clearly, the answer is to take up into those rafters you alerted me to when you hopped down, without saying another word. Working his way across the rafters, it's not long before he finds the roof. From there, it's a short flight to the watch tower, and a quick end for the look out.

Presumably the assassin was seeing to the man in the watch tower. Right then, he would organize the escape. Haytham saw that everyone who was bound in any way was freed and made sure they understood they were to remain in here out of sight until instructed otherwise.

It was something of a surprise to see that fellow at the top of the watch tower when he peered outside but that did mean the prisoners could be set free. There would be no mass hanging today. As they had been instructed the prisoners left through the back door and made for the woods. There were very few patrols there, finding their way safely back to town would be as simple as following the path.

The just left that fellow... Haytham nodded at the tower before making his way to the woods as well. Talkthe assassin had said, but he would see if that was what had been meant.

From his vantage point, he was able to see the whole of the complex. Watching the prisoners escape, he moved to the far side of the tower, and took a leap into a nearby haystack. Sure he could have just flown back, but it had been just as convenient to make that plunge. Getting back to the street, he took a roundabout way to get to the forest in the hopes that he would bot be followed.

Even if it was useless, if his father was unable to change his ways... Ratonhnhaké:ton wanted to discover what sort of life he'd been living in this alternate set of memories. Why he didn't know about his son.

Haytham waited for the assassin back in town where they had first met. It was much more quiet in this section of town now than it had been. The soldiers had moved on to other areas and those who had been labeled as pirates were now in hiding. They would not be disturbed here.
