What: Crew shenanigans, both light-hearted and serious, while the rest of the ships prepare for and do battle with the witch.

The Antoinette is a strange ship to be on. The (wise) decision was made not to go into battle, so it has been offered as a safe haven for those unable or unwilling to join the fight against the witch.

The air of light-heartedness found might, at times, feel forced, and it is a bit. The residents have only their morale to keep them going, so that's what they rely upon.


(Please feel free to either reply to the subject headers provided or make your own! This is just a general mingle log for anyone on the Antoinette. If your character is a non-combatant who wouldn't want to go into the fight or someone injured and unable to join the fight, Kyouya has publicly offered passage, so feel free to handwave being there.

Well, you look like a kid. Nobody sane would let someone so young onto a battlefield, so if you want to fight, it would mean that you're really old--right?

The Great Deku Tree isn't crazy! And neither is Captain Marvelous, or Mister Link, or Miss Tojiko, or Mister Sasuke, or anyone else on the Charming Murderess. I don't have to be old to know how to fight. I bet you can't fight half as well as I can!

Even if you're a good fighter, you're still a pipsqueak.

[He's pretty confident that he could just pick the kid up and hold him upside down at arms' length to win a fight between them.]

Are you some sort of martial arts champion or something?

I don't know what martial arts is. But I carry a sword because I know how to use it. I also know how to use the slingshot and pistol in my bag. And Mister Sasuke taught me how to throw small knives.

[Okay, maybe this kid actually is serious about being a good fighter.]

Still, even if you can use all those, it doesn't change the fact that most of the people out there will be twice your size.

[Granted it never stopped Hani-senpai, but... that's a weird situation altogether.]

I don't usually fight people. The first time I did was when we were freeing Isla Empieza from the Navy. Usually I fight monsters. They're a lot bigger than twice my size. Queen Ghoma was as big as my house. The skulltulas were four times my size.

What kind of world do you live in?

[Link stared at Hikaru, unsure how to answer that for a long moment.]

One with less water than this one?

[Hikaru makes a note to himself; don't ask this kid any more open or rhetorical questions.]

I don't think anyone is used to having this much water. I meant what sort of place do you live in, where a kid like you has to fight giant monsters?

[Link's face became serious.]

It's one that's being sickened by evil. The Great Deku Tree was cursed by an evil man of the desert. Even though I broke the curse, he was too weaken to survive. It's my duty to help stop the evil.

It used to be peaceful before the monsters appeared.

That's rough. [He says it with a grimace, raising his hand with the intention of patting the kid on the head. He really doesn't know what else to say.] So you just took orders from this tree until the desert guy killed it?

[breaks_pots]

[Link's expression went sour and he pulled his head away from the incoming pat.]

The Great Deku Tree is the Father of all Kokiri. We're born from his seeds.

[Fair enough, he wouldn't have allowed himself to be pat on the head as a child either. He lowers his hand again to rest some of his weight on it.]

So you're the kid of a tree that sent you out to go fight giant monsters, and then some guy from the desert came and cursed it, so now you're out on a life mission to defeat all evil? [Just to make sure he's got all this straight.]

No. The evil man from the desert cursed the Great Deku Tree first. Then the Great Deku Tree asked me to break the curse, and I did, but he was already too hurt to survive. So before he died he told me to leave the forest and find a Princess and help her defeat the evil that's taken over the land.

[There's a princess now too?]

You know, that'd make a pretty good video game. [Maybe even a game he would finish, for once.] So guy from the desert cursed your father-tree that you hatched out of a seed from, and his last wish was for you to go out and risk your life trying to be a hero to avenge his death? That's pretty dramatic. Are you sure he didn't just want you to re-plant him or something?

He didn't want me to avenge his death. He wanted me to help the princess stop the evil. And I couldn't replant him. He's a dead tree!


...What's a video game?

[Can't you get saplings even from dead trees? Ah well, Hikaru never cared much for gardening. He's happy for the topic change to something he actually knows about.]

A video game is like a virtual story that you control. A lot of them are really boring and predictable, but there are some that aren't so bad.

How do you control the story?

You have a controller! [He adjusts his hands in front of him, mimicking holding one.] It's usually some sort of plastic box with buttons on it, and you use it to move things in the game around, like your characters. You use them to complete quests and control the story. There are also puzzle games, where you just solve the puzzles to move on.

[He had no idea what most of that stuff was.]

The point is that you sound like you could make a pretty good one. [Hell, he might pitch it to his dad if they ever make it home.]
