Masquerade Ball - Totally not an ambush

There are going to be two main threads. One for the ball itself and the other for the Ambush! There will be an obligatory third thread for FASHION. Just remember to tag your muse in the subject header and OTA or 'Closed to ???' as you comment.

[For Aya not to spot Selphie in his effort to actually find her would be remiss, and he does see her. His eyes widen at how amazing she looks and makes his way over to her, smiling all the way. When he finally reaches her, he stops about an arm's length away, simply staring.]

You look... [There are a lot of words he's thinking of, but only one could do justice.] Beautiful.

*Selphie too, is taking in just how handsome Aya looks in the crisp white uniform. She does, actually, feel not to dissimilar to some kind of day dream she might have had. Then she notices the way that Aya is smiling, how he looks at her, and she can feel her heart beating that little bit faster, blushing too. Excuse the rather adoring expression on her face*

Thank you, Aya. You look...gorgeous. I mean, handsome kind of gorgeous...

I know. I mean, I understand. It's better than hideous. [He disliked wearing white, but if it suited his role for tonight, he can deal with it. Then hope he'll never have to do it again.] Enjoying yourself?

Aya, you're definitely not hideous! *She smiles and closes the gap between them, taking up his arm in hers, but not knowing if kisses are allowed here, so refraining from that. For now* I pretty much just here, but I'm having more fun already with you here.

[Aya chuckles as he adjusts his arm for Selphie and leads them to an area where drinks are being served.] I don't think I'll be much more fun than the ball, though.

I don't know about that! Already this is my favourite - *She pauses as she's about to say mission, but realises that's a bad idea* - event. So long as you're sure to have time to dance with me before... well, before later.

Oh? [Aya wonders if she's been to others before this one. Smiling, he weaves them through the crowd, getting closer to the bar area.] It's good to know this ranks high for you.

[Ah, right. Dancing. He got enough lessons to be able to dance, but he was still stiff from time to time.Aya rubs the back of his neck in uncertainty.]

One dance wouldn't hurt... [Maybe.]

*Selphie just gives a giggle at that and uses her free hand to salute him the way she's learned the navy here do it. Then she takes two glasses of champagne from a passing waiter and hands one to him*

One? I think we could manage two! And it'll only hurt if you put your foot under my heels.

Why would I put my foot under your sharp heels? [Aya takes the champagne with a nod, allowing his look of indignation to turn into a lesser look of indignation.]

How about we get through the first dance and see where it goes?

*Oh dear. She didn't mean to annoy him with that. She takes a long drink from her glass, then tries to keep it obvious that she was only joking around*

I mean, I haven't danced with you yet, so I dunno how good or not you might be!

*She giggles and blushes, pleased at least to be getting one dance from him. It was better than none*

[He's sure he's decent enough..]

[Aya gives her a soft smile, lifting his glass to her.]

I hope you judge on a curve.

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie smiles brightly and touches her glass to his, looking so excited and so happy, choosing to forget for now what might happen later*

Don't worry, I have my own ways of judging.

*Which she doesn't really, but she winks and pretends. Her champagne is gone a little too quickly, because she keeps glancing at the couples dancing, and is eager to get out there*

[Aya smiles and takes a sip of the champagne. He doesn't want to be too inebriated this night, so he'll probably leave more than half behind.]

Just let me know when you're ready.

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie, though, in all her excitement, manages to somehow quickly finish off her glass, and she leaves it on the tray of a passing waiter*

Okay, sailor! I'm ready!

*Not enough champagne to make her drunk, but she'll be perhaps a little more exicted*

[Aya had been hoping she would have ready much later in the night, but dancing now than later may be a good idea. He hands his glass to a passing waiter, thanking them before offering a hand to her. If he's going to play the part of a navy officer, he might as well play the part all the way by being chivalrous.]

*Waiting until later might mean not getting the chance to dance, so she had to grab the chance while there was time and he was still willing. Giggling, Selphie takes up his hand and walks with him to the dancefloor, glancing around at the other couples. She'll stand, ready and waiting for Aya to take the lead with holding her for the dance*

[He does so, and leads them into a safe, slow dance. He can definitely handle that. Aya is a bit stiff, but not so bad.]

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie, for her part, is clearly enjoying herself, dancing close to him and swaying to music. Looking into Aya's face, Selphie is flushed and smiling*

You can relax a little and enjoy it too, you know.

[Aya, who had been looking at his feet, snapped his attention back to Selphie.]

Right, relaxing. [He gives a soft sigh.] I'm just trying to make sure I don't step on your toes.

[booyaka_boom]

*That was cute, but Selphie tilts her head, looking at him uncertainly*

We can stop... if you don't like it?

[formerabyssinian]

I didn't say that. I just...don't want to hurt you.

[It would only be her toes, but still. It would made the night very awkward if he did.]

Don't worry about me! Just try to have fun!

*She holds herself a little closer, and leans up to kiss his cheek gently in encouragement*

[Smiling, Aya nods and tries to relax more, and enjoy their dance.]

What will you do after the ball? [Trying to make small talk, since it'll be a good distraction, and not talking feels odd.]

After all the dancing and stuff there's...stuff we all need to do, I guess. And hopefully it all goes smoothly, so I can just relax somewhere in my dress. It'd be a shame to wear this for such a short amount of time!

*She glances down at her dress, which she had spent a lot of time choosing, then smiles back up at Aya*

You gonna be really busy?

I may not be. It depends on how the night goes. [With them basically in the clutches of the navy, who knows what will happen. He'll still smile softly to her.] If we both end up not being busy, maybe we could do something afterwards.
