Masquerade Ball - Totally not an ambush

There are going to be two main threads. One for the ball itself and the other for the Ambush! There will be an obligatory third thread for FASHION. Just remember to tag your muse in the subject header and OTA or 'Closed to ???' as you comment.

[Roxas can be found near the food, poking at things to decide what looks most edible and eventually decides on sweets, stuffing a cookie into his mouth.]

[Like the last party on Deesuko Ballia, Roxas finds a comfortable spot on a barrel to watch the party goers. It's surprisingly familiar to hang back and observe. He isn't sure what to do at this kind of party, but everyone looks like they are having a good time to him.]

[Namur is loading up on sushi, and it's probably one of the few times Roxas will have seen the shark fishman actually eating. He glances up and nods his chin in greeting.]

How goes, smolt? Tried this shit yet? Zeff's outdone himself. 'S damn good. Sheheheheheh!

[Roxas watches him and what he picks.]

Huh? No...it's uncooked fish! People don't eat that, do they?

Hell yeah they do. Look, Zeff stuck all this... [He moves his finger in a circle above the sushi roll.] ... shit on it. Good stuff.

[He pops one in his mouth then holds one out to Roxas.]

Wanna try?

[Roxas looks at him and scratches his head. It doesn't sound good, but he doesn't know for sure.]

Well, okay!

[He takes it from Namur and looks at it one more time before shrugging and putting it in his mouth. It's not nearly as gross as he expects, actually it's pretty good!]

[om_nom_namur]

[Namur barks a laugh.]

Shit Smolt. Think Zeff's gonna put somethin' out here's gonna poison y'? Have a bit a faith in yer cook, huh? Sheheheh!

[He might pause a moment before answering. He swallows what's in his mouth before speaking.]

I don't know, but I don't think so. He seems like a good person.

[Mako's sitting on one of the barrels, occasionally looking out to Corsair when he's not keeping an watchful eye on the party goers. His foot's on the edge of the barrel and his elbows on top of it. He's far from relaxed.

Not being the only one sitting out a party is a weird feeling, and it's hitting him when he sees the young teen sitting down nearby. After a few minutes of silence, he finally asks:]

Why aren't you joining in?

[Roxas blinks a little when Mako speaks to him and he smiles a bit with a shrug.]

I dunno, I like to watch. I never really went to a party like this.

[Mako raises an eyebrow and slightly inclines his head.]

Why not?

There wasn't anything like this going on at home, at least not for me. But I haven't been alive that long. We went to an island and I was watching people have a party there too. It was interesting!

[streetferret]

[On his face is exactly what the sound of his brain stopping, and then backpedaling would look like.]

What are you, fourteen or fifteen? That's long enough for a party. [He originally was looking to see if maybe Roxas might have had a life similar to his, but now he's stuck on that.]

Hmm, nope! There was a pink pony and she made my birthday happen in January and I have to wait until January again to have another one. It was fun though, I had ice cream cake.

Yeah, they kind of only happen once a year.

So how old are you now? [He's not even going to try and make heads or tails out of the pink pony part.]

One! [Roxas holds up a finger to accentuate his point.]

I was one before I came, well just I think. But I didn't have my birthday until January so that's the day I'm going with.

[streetferret]

[Either wires got crossed somewhere or the kid's messing with him. Mako just needs to find out which.]

You look a bit big to be just one year old. [He's not hiding any sarcasm in that remark.]

I'm nineteen. You can't be that much younger than me. That's impossible.

Yeah, maybe, but I am. I'm a Nobody though. It's kind of complicated really. Sora lost his heart and then I appeared. I just kinda showed up one day just over a year ago in Twilight Town. Sora's fifteen if that helps you. I think.

[streetferret]

[If anything, Mako's more confused now than before. But he didn't become a detective by missing the details. Sora, whoever that is, is the age Mako had guessed, Twilight Town's where he showed up. Like the Empieza from the sound of it.]

Nnnnot really. [But he's not going to pry further into that, not when it's that complicated.]

But now's your chance to be in a party instead of just watching one. [He's not one to talk, but Mako says it with a casual shrug as he looks at the crew that are participating.]

[It's probably the best decision really.]

Maybe. I like watching people though. It looks like they're all having fun.

[He smiles and shrugs.]

I used to watch people a lot at home after work.

[If there’s one thing Mako can relate to it’s needing a source of income at a young age. Any respect outside of simply being a fellow crew mate just got a small boost.]

Is that why you skipped the ball, to watch here instead?

[A quick look from the party, to Corsair, and then to the Sun before Mako looks back over to Roxas. Keeping an eye on things is his main concern, but this kid’s a good distraction from letting his mind focus on something that’s not stressful.]

[Roxas shakes his head.]

No, Marco told me I should stay here and watch the ship. It isn't the kind of infiltration I'm used to, and Lea pointed out I'm not really suited for it.

[First thing Mako thinks of is Marco making sure the younger members of the crew stayed clear of anything that could go wrong.]

You don’t seem like the snoop around type. [Sorry, Roxas. You’re fifteen and a kid to him so far.]

Where’s your friend at? That Sora guy. [Guessing he’s a friend, Mako’s still working out just what Roxas told him about that.]

[He could be insulted but he just smiles a little.]

Maybe that's what makes me the perfect snoop around type.

[Roxas blinks a little.] I dunno. Sora's not really my friend but he probably went to the ball with everyone since I don't see him here. I mean maybe someday he'll be my friend...

[streetferret]

[Wow, he can’t argue that logic. Unsuspecting is the way to go it seems.]

That’s- uh… [Well, now if he just had some water to wash his foot down with. Assuming he and Sora were friends isn’t something he expected to backfire.]

Well, yeah. Maybe. [Suggestions perhaps?]

If you can find my brother, Bolin, in this mess, [Party, Mako. It’s a party.] I’m pretty sure he’d be game for hanging out.

[He shrugs a little bit.]

It's okay, Lea is my best friend and he'll always be my best friend. So if Sora's not my friend it's okay. Since I'm going to disappear, it might be better. He and I are the same person after all. [He pauses.] Well, supposed to be.

Bolin? I don't think I met him before. Hard to say...

[He thinks about it.]
