[Marco didn't even think twice before switching over to the branch but as Thatch took off the neckerchief, fear completely seized him.]
[For a second he forgot it was Thatch, that Thatch would never ever leave him if he asked it.]
[For a split second, Marco felt very much like a small child being abandoned in a forest like something out of a dark fairy tale.]
[It was a punishment, wasn't it?]
[For being too weak?]
[For not being strong enough?]
[For showing that weakness?]
[Complete and total fear and panic seized him as the neckerchief became a hood, like Thatch was saying goodbye.]
[Don'tgodon'tgodon'tgodon'tgodon'tgodon't ever leave me again!]
[He wanted to protest, to say something, to react, and he couldn't, too numb with fear.]
[And then it was gone and Thatch offered up his shoulder and Marco flew there so fast he might as well have teleported.]
[Stupid stupid stupid...]
[He couldn't breathe.]
[He didn't know why he'd even think that.]
[Of course Thatch wouldn't leave him if he asked.]
[It was Thatch.]
[Why?]
[Why had he even been scared?]
[But even now he's shaking.]
Thatch...
[It's a dark low whistle.] Something's very wrong with me.
[He can breathe again, but he can't begin to understand it.]

[She lets out a hearty laugh of her own, swatting at him teasingly.]
It's just a song. As if I'd ever spend an hour snuggling with a man named Master Andril, or Brelan. Honestly they've got to have better names than that.
[She leans back, letting her hair fly in the wind, giving Thatch a grin of her own.]
And would you now? Well...you'd have to sing for it, you know. Then I'll consider it.

[Relief floods through him as he's cradled.]
[He instantly rubs the top of his head along Thatch's neck as soothingly as he can, spreading his wings to allow for the pets and trying to soothe his brother right back.]
Me too.
[He doesn't know what else to say. To make it better. He's scared, Thatch is hurting, and it must be fixed, but he doesn't know how.]
[And that scares him more.]
It's not like me.
[Thatch had said it was, but it's not. It wasn't just spring. Something was much deeper wrong with it all.]
I want to protect you from it.
[No one was allowed to touch his Thatch. Maybe that was why he was scared. Because it was affecting Thatch and Marco didn't know how to stop it for once. If he puffed up as big as he could and wrapped his wings around Thatch, would it fix it? Could he shield him from it?]
[Yes, that had to be why he was scared. He'd lost Thatch once already, the idea of losing him to the forest or anything else terrified him to the core.]
Thatch is mine. Not for the forest to touch.
[He gives the forest the most dark and menacing growl he can. He'll kick apart whatever he has to in order to protect his brother.]

[She listens to the song in silence, bobbing her head in time with the tune and smiling. The fact that he's taken the time to get her away from the rest of the crew, out on a boat, with food and wine...and to change around a song for her? Well...that's a lot more than most men have done for her.
Pointedly, she doesn't laugh. Instead, she picks up the bottle she'd brought, and leans in close again, one arm snaking around him.]
Is that what you really want? [Her tone is low, husky, and not at all displeased.] Heh, you still haven't given me dinner...but I'll think about the first request.
[And then she kisses him, pressing her lips to his with a fierce tenderness and a happy chuckle in the back of her throat.]
But the second...mmmm...no problems there.

[But the scritches instantly calm Marco down and he quietly cranes his head over to get a good look at Roxas, look him right in the eye, and shakes his head to make sure Roxas knows that he neither came over to swim, or for food.]
[Then he relaxes back on Roxas' shoulders and gently steers him with a nudge as though to suggest the kid play along the shore.]

[OKAY NEW GUY.]
[YOU ARE OFFICIALLY AWESOME ENOUGH TO BE IN THE CREW.]
[PHOENIX APPROVED.]
[Have a giant pleased phoenix grin, and some SPARKLES, and some waving his tail back and forth. HE IS SO PLEASED.]
[As for setting things on fire, well, fortunately his flames only look dangerous. They can't burn anything, but Bolin or Pabu would probably have to be brave enough to touch the bird or just notice that the deck isn't bursting into flames wherever he's touching it.]

[To be fair, Roxas wasn't going to throw him in the water or anything. At the nudging he blinks a little and moves in the direction he's nudged.]
I haven't seen you in awhile. You like to hide, huh? I told Kairi about you but she didn't know you either. You should come over to our ship sometimes. It's a lot of fun, sometimes. Lea and I cook food together.
I tried what Ikki said, not getting mad at him, but he didn't like that. Lea's kind of weird, isn't he?
[Marco must really enjoy listening to Roxas babble. Really. He reaches the edge of the water, standing on the damp sand.]

Yaaaaaay....
[Kind of a weak deadpan cheer, but this is a good sign. Marco deadpan is a normal sane happy Marco. As opposed to previously cookoo Marco.]
[Still he takes a deep breath and shivers slightly.]
Can you feel the hum of it all breathing too?
[Maybe that's a crazy thing to say. Maybe it's a phoenix thing only.]
[But he needs to know if the other bird laguz can even feel it, they just handle it better, or if they don't feel it at all.]

It's good, I guess!
[Roxas smiles up at Thatch before looking back at Oblivion, diligently wiping it with his cloth.]
I have to clean up after the fight. People are kind of messy.

[His eyes flicker in annoyance.]
Don't be stupid.
Birds are flock creatures. I didn't take anyone away from their parents. [He starts to growl and has to keep control. Right, she wouldn't know about Marco's Pops yet.] Pops was the most important person in the world to me, I would never separate a child from their parents permanently. [Ugh, he's not used to this feeling. Just steady....]
This island is--
[He closes his eyes, trying to tune out everything overwhelming him.]
[For every new birth there are the dead, unseen, unheard, unfelt, unnoticed.]
[No, the life is there.]
The parents are fine!

[He didn't mean to snap, doesn't want to, and he covers his eyes with a hand, forcing his voice back to gentle.] Please go see for yourself. The parents are all there, except the ones out gathering supplies. Just because they can do it alone doesn't mean they should have to. Especially not with an Uncle Phoenix around to help, eh? [Grin!]
[Marco adores listening to Roxas babble you have no idea.]
[He chirps softly, unable to completely shrug, but instantly relaxes, getting comfortable and listening.]

He was kind of confused I guess cause I usually yell at him a lot when he's pissing me off but Ikki said maybe that's why he won't ever tell me anything, so...
[He shrugs a little bit under Marco.]
We went and fought some Navy people. It was fine I guess. I'm not sure how many of them I got. Lots I think. I had a cut on my forehead but it's gone now. It was weird, since it was bleeding a lot but I wasn't really hurt. I'm not hurt now so don't worry. I'm pretty tough! [He grins.]
I think that's all I've been up to since the candy. I haven't really had any since...oh! I should have saved you some birthday cake! I made a cake for Lea myself.

[Marco gently pets Roxas' forehead where the cut would have been with his wing as though healing it better, even though as Roxas said, it was all gone.]
[He gives another long low whistle, and pats Roxas' head again. No need for cake, but that was nice of him!]

[Sitting on Ikki in phoenix form as they walk.]
[They made up their minds and they started packing.]
[They left before the sun came up that day.]
[An exit to eternal summer slacking.]
[But where were they going without ever knowing the way?]

I could sleep. But I refuse to until we are miles away from this island. I'm not eating either, I don't trust anything from this island, at least until I'm sure this place's aura can'ta affect it.
[It's not as if he's going to be going on low energy any time soon, the phoenix in him makes sure that such a thing doesn't happen. He can't entirely control the aggressiveness, though, or he could, but the only way to do that would be to give in to the island. And he's not doing that. He made a promise with Marco.
Besides, with his luck either they were still there even when he returned from being dead or he was left alone in there while the crew sailed away.]
Surviving. Plain and simple, my "wandering home" isn't accessible while we're here either.
[Ikki's not familiar with sailor chants, so he just answers honestly to both questions. He's pretty much a wanderer anyway so to him it even makes sense.]
What about you?
