The black fortress ripples with shimmering iridescent energy, the piles of black coral heaped on roped together barges around it, bobbing in the waves. On the largest barge stands a slender man with a copper belt, wearing a face mask, orange red hair flecked with black from ash or dust. As the dawn slowly folds over the ocean, he'll look up, as if hearing some hidden voice.
At the top of the fortress, a figure climbs into vision, a woman, dressed in gray, features obscured by a hood with impenetrable darkness behind it. She staggers a moment as if she is weary, then straightens to her full height. As she speaks, her voice comes out of the journals, echoing over the water, low but clear.
"This is no small task ye do. She that rots within'll do anythin' ta stop ye. Don't hesitate to kill what ye find. If they were human once, they hain't no more. Watch out for her golems, too, or they'll drain ye dry quicker'n a wink. But if ye can get rid of 'em, it'll weaken her." She hesitates, cants her head to the side. "And if ye lot aren't as much of a bunch'a idiots as usual, ye might come out alive through this."
That said, she raises her hands. After a moment so does the man on the barge. For a moment, nothing seems to happen and then iridescent light shimmers over the coral, seeming to match that which surrounds the fortress. It crackles and dances like a fire, and then without warning bursts into a furious life, slamming against the energy of the fortress. There is the sound like thunder and light snaps and crackles, zipping with energy. Then with a woosh the light flies upward, taking the figure with it. The man on the barge lets out a cry like a seagull and dives into the water as if intending to swim after her.
For the boats that remain, a part of the fortress will crumble away into the sea, revealing a small harbor and an open doorway. Enter all ye who dare.

The scene before them is chaotic. Ace may have given them a slight reprieve but the army of the undead was awaiting, and it seems like they noticed them. It doesn't look like it's going to be too easy to find Sora.
As one comes close, he slashes his sword, taking off the zombie's head. Well. His strength is good for something. It's enough to gain some confidence in his skills. Thanks to practicing with Thatch, his stance is a little tighter, even though he's still very much a beginner, but his powers can help offset that.]

Though, for a guy who hasn't actually used his sword yet in battle, that first swing is damn impressive.
The zombies swarm then quickly, though, so it's not long before Riku starts slashing through them as well. It's obvious this isn't going to be a 'clear the room before advancing' kind of thing, because there's just way too many of them. They're going to have to plow through the masses to clear a path and ignore what they leave behind.]

...Hours later, he has started to question exactly how big this stupid place really is. He's gone through some impressive maze-like areas, before, but this takes the cake.
Frankly, not seeing an end to something can wear on anyone. With a frustrated growl, he unleashes Thundaga, shocking all the zombies around him.]
Enough, already!
[Because it's bad enough to be lost--but to be lost with a seemingly endless supply of persistent monsters?
...Not that it's the first time he's had to deal with a situation like this, but still.]

Cutting through another, Kairi had gone on ahead, getting more and more annoyed as more and more of these things kept coming. They were endless and Kairi wondered how that was even possible. Just as she was about to turn a corner, cutting up on zombie as she did, she stopped dead in her tracks. From a distance she was pretty sure she heard his voice.]
Sora?! [She soon started to run off ahead again, following what she believed to be the right direction and hoping that the others were still following.]

She could take care of the ones that get in her way, but the ones behind her were easier for him to get. If he wasn't so strong at the moment, he probably would be getting tired now, since he's not used to hacking and slashing at enemies, it's more Riku and Sora's thing.
Most of what Riku and subsequently Thatch taught him is really out the window at this point. There's not much point in keeping forms up with stupid mindless enemies. He can worry about that kind of thing later.]

The remnants of a spell, and one that he's seen in action plenty of times.
He sees Kairi take off, so she must have heard it, too. Riku finds Natsuno taking care of things behind her and rushes over, throwing his Keyblade out in front of him and taking out several of the zombies Natsuno was in the middle of slicing up.]
Three more for me!
[Not that they decided they were keeping track, but whatever. He catches the Keyblade just as he's sprinting by Natsuno and tosses a teasing grin his way.]

There's a surprised blink as he spots her running in his direction.]
Kairi...?
[He's definitely glad to see her, but there's the question of "what's she doing in a place like this?!" in his head. Next, his thoughts turn to the realization that, because she's here, there's a big chance of a certain other Destiny Islands kid shouldn't be far behind.]

Another one for me. That means three. [She knew she wouldn't be able to keep up with the way Riku fights, but she feels confident that she is doing well for someone who honestly has never had actual experience past a few heartless that one time.
Once her eyes spotted Sora, her smile brightens considerably.]
Sora, we found you. [Twirling around, she slashes at another.] That's four. Guys, I found him! He's over here.

Don't think I'm going to sit back while you get all the zombies! I was going easy on you!
[One and two, down in the blink of an eye. He does chase after Riku though, coming into Sora's line of sight as he rounds the corner behind him. He brings his sword up, slicing into another zombie. Three.
If he wanted to, he could make up time with his speed, but that's kind of unfair and a lot less fun. Not that killing zombies is fun. Not at all.]

[Slash, hack, swing, dodge, lunge and stab -- there go another three or four down as he runs full speed down the hallway. Sora and Kairi come into view soon enough and Riku slows to a stop several feet away, breathing a little heavily and propping his Keyblade up on his shoulder.]
So. You after us or the zombies?
[Despite the question, he's got a grin on his face. It's pretty obvious Sora is back to being himself, but Riku can't help but poke at him anyway.]
Because I've gotta warn you, we've got a head start on these guys.
[As if to demonstrate, he removes the Keyblade from his shoulder and flips it around, stabbing it backwards without looking into a zombie that was coming up from behind.

When in doubt of what to say, compliment their fighting skills?The respite he's feeling is steadily being replaced with the heavy weight of guilt. Sure, he's beyond relieved to see their smiling faces. But, there's the unavoidable reminder of the last time he saw Riku, Kairi, and Roxas--and is why he's immediately wondering about the latter's absence. Did something happen to him? ...Is he angry? Well...
At least with the last thing, it would mean he's fine, right?
So, the look that showed his reassurance in seeing them tensed, in spite of his laugh at the teasing. Pivoting on one foot to put weight on the other, he props his own Keyblade onto his shoulder. Sure, there's still a smile resting on his face, but that's not to say there's no effort behind it.]
Very funny! [He then turns and slashes horizontally at two zombies that were looking to double team him. Good.
Afterward, he holds the Keyblade in place, a serious expression forming. As he lowers his weapon to the side, his head somewhat follows suit. Face towards the floor, he uses the pause in fighting to speak in a genuinely apologetic tone.]
...I'm really sorry...about that.

Thanks, I've been practising. [Switching hands over for a moment, she used the time she had to wipe whatever it was that came from the undead onto her trousers. Whatever it was it was still disgusting. Maybe it was body fluid, but never the less she really didn't want to know.]

Natsuno keeps his guard up, taking out as many zombies that dare come near them, now at the back of the group. He gives Sora a bit of a wave though in between zombie stabbing.]
You're looking well enough. Don't worry about it, everyone knows it isn't your fault. I don't think anyone will hold it against you.

[He bends over a bit, trying to catch Sora's eyes even though he's stubbornly looking at the ground.]
