The black fortress ripples with shimmering iridescent energy, the piles of black coral heaped on roped together barges around it, bobbing in the waves. On the largest barge stands a slender man with a copper belt, wearing a face mask, orange red hair flecked with black from ash or dust. As the dawn slowly folds over the ocean, he'll look up, as if hearing some hidden voice.
At the top of the fortress, a figure climbs into vision, a woman, dressed in gray, features obscured by a hood with impenetrable darkness behind it. She staggers a moment as if she is weary, then straightens to her full height. As she speaks, her voice comes out of the journals, echoing over the water, low but clear.
"This is no small task ye do. She that rots within'll do anythin' ta stop ye. Don't hesitate to kill what ye find. If they were human once, they hain't no more. Watch out for her golems, too, or they'll drain ye dry quicker'n a wink. But if ye can get rid of 'em, it'll weaken her." She hesitates, cants her head to the side. "And if ye lot aren't as much of a bunch'a idiots as usual, ye might come out alive through this."
That said, she raises her hands. After a moment so does the man on the barge. For a moment, nothing seems to happen and then iridescent light shimmers over the coral, seeming to match that which surrounds the fortress. It crackles and dances like a fire, and then without warning bursts into a furious life, slamming against the energy of the fortress. There is the sound like thunder and light snaps and crackles, zipping with energy. Then with a woosh the light flies upward, taking the figure with it. The man on the barge lets out a cry like a seagull and dives into the water as if intending to swim after her.
For the boats that remain, a part of the fortress will crumble away into the sea, revealing a small harbor and an open doorway. Enter all ye who dare.
[If things become too crowded, feel free to make another thread outside of these. Just put where you are in the header.]

...He probably could've used the door, but it was all the way around the corner and down the hall, this seemed faster.
Also it just feels good to be able to kick the crap out of things again now that there's not some shitty collar around his neck draining all his strength.
Anyway, he comes flying in and lands in a crouch before darting a quick look around the place.]
OI! ANY ASSHOLES STILL IN HERE NEED TO GET THE FUCK OUT RIGHT NOW!
[And that's really the only warning you're going to get. Sanji charges forward after that, heading straight for that familiar looking statue in the center of the room. When he's just about there he falls into a sudden spin, looking like a mini-tornado for a second, and when he comes out of it the bottom half of his right leg is a bright, blazing red.
He jumps up, swinging that burning leg around at the statue, and his foot smashes clean through it, shattering it into pieces that crumble and begin to fall. Another kick sends the remainders soaring across the room where they crash into another wall and break completely.
Where the statue used to be there is now a large, gaping hole in the floor. Beneath it, you might hear a sloshing sound, like maybe there's water down there.
Then come the tentacles, rising up from the deep and creeping out of the hole. They're huge, and strong, and the thicker they get, the less room there seems to be for them to come through.
Which is when the floor around the hole begins to crack and split apart.
Beware the sudden tremors -- that isn't an earthquake and they're not going to stop anytime soon.]

Oii! Sanjii!
[his voice comes out too faint. So he swallows and takes a deep breath and tries again--
but is interrupted by:
OI! ANY ASSHOLES STILL IN HERE NEED TO GET THE FUCK OUT RIGHT NOW!]
SANJII!
[he looks down the pit of the treasure room, and gives Sanji a huge grin and wave.]
OIIII!
[before jumping down

This time, though, he just curses under his breath when he looks up and spots his captain waving down at him.
Damn. Finally hit a dead end—
What the hell is Luffy doing?]
—You idiot, I said get out, not jump in!
[But he's not expecting the sudden water surge that sweeps Luffy away and his eyes go wide.]
Fuck. LUFFY!
[He has to jump out of the way before he can go after him, as a tentacle comes bursting out of the ground beneath him. He manages to give it a solid kick or three but they don't seem to do much more than piss the creature off.
A stronger set of tremors soon have the room trembling, and the floor splinters some more, cracking and starting to upheave in places. Sanji curses again and scrambles across the room, away from the thrashing tentacles and towards where he last saw Luffy.]
LUFFY!!
no subject
This thing is really stubborn. [salt water pouring from his mouth he feels weak all over, but he sees Sanji and hears him calling and can't help but grin]
You're okay again!
no subject
Despite everything, Luffy looks happy. Happy to see him.
These people and their damn grinning, what the hell is wrong with them?! All it does is make him feel horrible, which he knows he deserves since he's been nothing but an asshole trying to avoid his nakama all day. And—the other stuff. Of course. He should feel horrible, though admittedly it's warring with pure relief at seeing Luffy very much alive.
But really, it's a little hard to breathe, and harder still to deal with the images that quickly spring to his mind of Luffy fighting for the pot of stew...and the way he'd chugged it down.
And Sanji had just tossed him in the pantry and locked him away like he was a shitty sack of potatoes, hadn't he? Like his life was just that meaningless.
As he stands there, unmoving, every muscle in his body tense and the self-hatred and shame weighing him down all over again, it becomes painfully apparently that he has no idea how he's ever going to get past this.
And Luffy is still just smiling.]
...Would you let go of it already? [His voice is strained, unsteady almost. It's hard to force himself to keep talking.] You have to get out of here, that damn thing is going to take the whole place down!
no subject
He pushes off of the tentacle and lands in front of Sanji a little unevenly and he stares at him a long moment. He takes it on himself because he's that kind of guy. Even if he shouldn't. It's why he only said Luffy should get out because he wants to stay here and make up for it]
That person made you make bad food, so if you want to make up for it you have to make good food. Okay?
no subject
Sanji doesn't meet his eyes for long—can't, really, he's not ready to. His gazes shifts off to the side and everything about his posture screams at Luffy to leave him alone.
He absolutely doesn't expect Luffy to listen.]
It's not that simple.
no subject
no subject
...Mostly because he doesn't get the chance to as more tentacles explode out of the floor, sending stone fragments soaring into the air as seawater geysers up around them.
Sanji stumbles, grasping at the wall behind him so he doesn't get sucked under, and casts a wild look around for Luffy.
If he has to, he'll punt the rubber idiot straight back up the way he came in because dammit, Luffy is getting out of here.]
no subject
He won't let him go. He didn't give him permission to leave. Luffy spots something he can use among the dwindling treasure piles and finds Sanji, dodging his way over.]
Take care of this.
[he puts his hat on Sanji's head, shoving it down over his eyes and then snaps the golden handcuffs he found around both their wrists. There. Now he's stuck.]
Come on!
[and then he runs forward, most of the floor gone now but there are still a few like stepping stones so he jumps onto them, trusting Sanji to keep pace and then launches himself for the staircase--but something wraps around his leg mid jump, yanking him down into the dark water]
no subject
He blinks rapidly at first when the hat is put on his head, mouth opening and closing a few times as he reaches up, almost warily, to touch it. Of course then it's shoved over his eyes and he can't see a damn thing, so his automatic reaction there is to growl and try to shove it back up again because Luffy probably has some kind of plan—]
Oi, Luffy, what the hell?
[—which, in this case, involves slapping something kind of heavy around his wrist and...
Oh no.
He gets the hat up just in time, eyeing the handcuffs in disbelief, but a second later it's all he can do not to trip and stumble as Luffy takes off and he's forced to run along with him.]
Dammit, what's with these shitty things?! Luffy!
[He kicks off, aiming for the staircase, as well, when there's a sudden tug, something jerking him backwards, and he looks around in time to see that tentacle grabbing Luffy and then the water is rushing up to meet them.
Sanji goes under with a splash, cursing and immediately kicking upwards. It's all on him now, as long as they're under the water there isn't a fucking thing Luffy can do. He breaks through the surface, but only barely, just enough to suck in the breath he didn't have time to take before, but he's basically playing tug o' war with the shitty tentacle and Luffy is the rope.
His arm strains as he tries to pull back, but that clearly isn't going to work so he doesn't waste time on it for too long and instead somersaults under the water, finds a partially submerged chunk of the floor to push off of, and dives into the depths to find whatever the hell these tentacles are attached to so he can kick the shit out of it.]
no subject
But what he can see is a bunch of dark thick tentacles, like the underside of an umbrella and beak almost the size of a small ship]
That's so cool!
[except it sounds more like gurgling and a lot of air goes out so he claps a hand over his mouth again.]
no subject
It gets knocked back a little, but now there are more tentacles coming their way. Sanji dodges where he can, kicking and tumbling through the water, but with Luffy still attached and not able to move much, his range of motion is somewhat limited.
He gets in several more attacks, some aimed at the head but more at the tentacle still tight around Luffy, but soon enough there's another one that manages to wrap itself around Sanji's leg and he can't shake it lose.
Goddammit.]
no subject
But he won't let it do it! He won't let it hurt Sanji! Heat boiled through him, like gear second, sluicing hot through his veins. He just found Sanji again and his nakama had already been hurt enough and they were going to get back to the ship so they could eat! This thing needed to get
out
of his
way!
It jerks through him hot and fast, sending a ripples shooting through the water and he can feel the tentacle lose its grip before he's swept into black.]
no subject
Then something rushes past him. Over him, around him, and it's not exactly unfamiliar, he's felt something like this before, and whatever it is it's strong.
He looks around at Luffy, eyes wide, but Luffy's head is already bobbing forward and there's a rush of bubbles escaping his mouth and more importantly he's starting to sink in the water.
Sanji grabs for him, noticing at the same time that the tentacle isn't squeezing the shit out of his leg anymore, and after that the only thing that matters is getting to the surface in time. Luckily he's a fast swimmer, but they're down pretty deep and his vision is starting to black out around the edges and—
He explodes through the surface of the water with a loud gasp, sucking in much needed oxygen and quickly hauling Luffy up with him. Much as he'd love to hang out and catch his breath, though, there isn't time for that and he scrambles up onto the jagged remains of the floor on the outskirts of the room. Sanji turns Luffy onto his side, pounding on his back until he expels a rush of water, and he thinks he's breathing—he'd better be breathing, hell if Sanji is doing CPR right now—so now the goal is getting the fuck out of this room.]
no subject
They're not going to be able to get away. He has only has enough time to limply grab Sanji's arm in warning before water erupts around them and they're sucked into the things huge mouth]
