The black fortress ripples with shimmering iridescent energy, the piles of black coral heaped on roped together barges around it, bobbing in the waves. On the largest barge stands a slender man with a copper belt, wearing a face mask, orange red hair flecked with black from ash or dust. As the dawn slowly folds over the ocean, he'll look up, as if hearing some hidden voice.

At the top of the fortress, a figure climbs into vision, a woman, dressed in gray, features obscured by a hood with impenetrable darkness behind it. She staggers a moment as if she is weary, then straightens to her full height. As she speaks, her voice comes out of the journals, echoing over the water, low but clear.

"This is no small task ye do. She that rots within'll do anythin' ta stop ye. Don't hesitate to kill what ye find. If they were human once, they hain't no more. Watch out for her golems, too, or they'll drain ye dry quicker'n a wink. But if ye can get rid of 'em, it'll weaken her." She hesitates, cants her head to the side. "And if ye lot aren't as much of a bunch'a idiots as usual, ye might come out alive through this."

That said, she raises her hands. After a moment so does the man on the barge. For a moment, nothing seems to happen and then iridescent light shimmers over the coral, seeming to match that which surrounds the fortress. It crackles and dances like a fire, and then without warning bursts into a furious life, slamming against the energy of the fortress. There is the sound like thunder and light snaps and crackles, zipping with energy. Then with a woosh the light flies upward, taking the figure with it. The man on the barge lets out a cry like a seagull and dives into the water as if intending to swim after her.

For the boats that remain, a part of the fortress will crumble away into the sea, revealing a small harbor and an open doorway. Enter all ye who dare.

[Hajime doesn't detach that easily, especially not with Rin being such a jerkface.]

Everybody was worried about you, Ai. We came here to rescue you as quickly as we could and it looked like everyone else had the same idea! There are loooots of people here now trying to save their friends, so you better stick with us so you don't get lost. The zombies are scared of the shard, so no one's gonna bother you as long as you stay close to me, okay?

[They're on orders to get back to the ship as quickly as they can after Hajime's little show at the docks. The captain and Mitsuhide still don't want people to know that their crew has a shard and people have certainly started to get nosy about it. Well, Ban has started to get nosy about it, but Ban counts as people.]

[Clearly they need a Ban ban.]

Hurry, both of you.

[With little more than that, Rin leads the way, just barely; if Hajime insists on clinging to Nitori, they can both fall behind, see what Rin cares. He'd rather get eaten by zombies than hang around those two, anyway.

Nitori acting this way, being ashamed, is exactly what Rin wanted, and yet somehow it doesn't satisfy - which, of course, only makes Rin more annoyed. Why is he still not getting what he wants?]

[He barely manages to absorb everything that's being said, but he does get that Hajime told him to stay close to her, and Rin said to hurry.

That's enough for Aiichiro, right now. So he takes quick steps to keep up with them, not really looking at either of them.]

We can talk once it's safe, Hajime-chan.

[It's aimed at her, because she's the one who wants to talk. Not because he can't think of anything he wants to say to Rin right now. Of course not.]

Oh, I've been talking the whole time, even when I was fighting the zombies. Hey, Rin! Remember when I was fighting the zombies! That was so cool! I was like SNIP SNIP SNIP! and there was nothing they could do!

[Hajime continues to prattle on about the battle at the harbor and her adventures inside the fortress and it's going to take a lot to stop her.]

[You know what's a good reason to hurry? Trying to get away from Hajime and her endless prattling. Rin is pushing ahead full-speed, and he could care less about any potential safety risks. Not his fault the others should be faster.]

That sounds really exciting, Hajime-chan. I'd love to hear all about it once we're back on the ship.

[Of course, AIichiro has to try and make up for Rin being a jerk, even if maybe his senpai has a point in this case. He does walk a little faster himself, but that doesn't mean he's going to ignore someone talking!]
