[Log || 002] Setting sail!

What: Learning how to sail this thing, meeting each other, prepping for Navy battles!

3/12-3/13: BEFORE setting sail!

[General thread for wrapping up anything that needs wrapping up at Isla Empieza! And possibly meeting up with anyone from Queen's Gambit or Brave Vesperia if they're still around so we can start setting up an alliance for Navy shenanigans next week!]

3/12, afternoon

[summing_it_up]

[Among picking up some last-minute supplies, this also appears to be a good time to walk the dragon around.It's not safe to let him wander about on his own, right? Because that'd just make the locals nervous again.

Aside from all of this, Hiccup's actually sort of excited to leave the island. Maybe it's left over from not being able to fly with Toothless for some time. A glance is given toward the Night Fury.]

Soon we'll be out sailing, Toothless. [He pauses.] Well, you've already had your fill of that a while back, huh? Not that you mind or anything.

[Toothless follows along faithfully, as though he doesn't want to let the boy out of his sight. Given that he's had a mild case of separation anxiety, perhaps it's true enough.

He can tell that they're getting ready to leave, and he looks forward to it, if only because he's not very particular of the town and its people that side-eye him so. Hiccup will know what the dragon truly wants, however, Toothless giving a meaningful glance at his back, wings raising just slightly, although not unfurling.]

OPEN, after the 13th

[you boys need a real pirate to literally show you the ropes? Here he is. Gan Ning cast in with the turtles because turtles are cool, and four turtles is four times the good luck. He knows what he's doing, so if sailing lessons are needed, he will (loudly, gruffly, and with a bit of swearing) teach. Else, he can be bugged for sword-fighting, ogling his tattoos, and complaining about the constant ringing of his bells from bow to stern, everywhere he goes...]

[Gaius has a very basic understanding of sailing, and only because of his own observations from sailing with a previous crew, if not for some time aboard ships back in his world. It had been enough to snag them a ship here, said ship being the very one they sailed upon.

He was actually pretty proud of himself for being able to help Raphael hijack this thing. It had to be the biggest thing he'd ever stolen, certainly.

But now that they are at sea, the thief is content to let those with more experience and interest handle sailing. ...although that doesn't stop him from making a study of it himself. You know, just in case of an emergency or something. He cooks and bakes, sews and does a bit of smithing aside from thievery, so adding sailing to the list doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Of course, he's doing all his watching from the crow's nest, which has become one of his favorite spots to be (when he can get to it first) since it's a good vantage point not only for anything in the surrounding waters, but for watching the deck below.]

14th

So let me get this straight. [because he has a diagram, of course he does and he points to the corresponding parts as he talks]

Jib topsail, topsail, stay sail, course, mainsail, yard, foremast, main nmast with crow's nest and mizzen mast.

[Since this is the one guy Raph DOESN'T know, he'll just be over here ogling his tattoos bugging him. Especially since Mikey is the one who found him.]

So you were actually already a pirate?

Raph catchall, any date, any time!

[Raph is either below deck going at it with the practice dummy that he totally made sure they had before they took off...

OR.

He's bothering whoever is sailing the ship. Mostly because he knows nothing about any of that, so he's gonna be nosy about it. Maybe not Mikey levels of nosy, at least he's not touching every little thing and asking what everything is... He'll just stare intently. And try to figure it out.]

[Unless anyone's bothered to tell Toothless he wasn't allowed to roam the ship, he was going to roam its deck off. That meant that snooping around below deck? Totally acceptable! Besides, it isn't like any of the crew here is going to freak out at the sight of a dragon wandering loose.

A sleek black head peers around before the rest of the dragon slinks in. He's without his gear since Hiccup's removed it when not in need. He watches the turtle whacking the practice dummy.]

15th

[he's sitting on deck making detailed charts of the ship and the parts and the ropes and what to pull and when, cross referencing parts in a notebook and occasionally scratching his head as he tries to figure how to fit in a seventeenth note on the crossbeam without making it overly complicated. He doesn't quite notice his brother yet because he's deeply invested in what he's doing and, sadly, not quite as much of a ninja as Raph is.]

15th, afternoon

[Leo had made his way below deck, watching as Raph pounded into the practice dummy. But he wasn't there to watch, he just found out something and he wanted to talk to Raph about it.]

Ahem. Raph, can we talk for a minute?

[And he says that in his leader voice, the kind of voice that makes it obvious that he's not happy.]

Leo, any day and time

[There are a few things that someone may see Leo doing. He may just be wondering around, seeing what was going on around the ship. He may be at the steering wheel, trying to figure out how to steer the ship right. He may just be standing around, either cleaning or doing practice katas with his katana's.

Feel free to bug him no matter what it is, he just loves it when people bother him. Really.]

[He knows Raphael mentioned he has three other turtle brothers, but he's still getting use to the fact that they were now here on board the ship with them.

Apparently Hiccup sees no problem in approaching Leonardo. He hasn't much else to do (yet), and they're both just there. Why not.]

14th

[watches him practice with the katana a bit, fingers a bit cramped from writing all day. He hasn't even gotten to half of the things he wants to diagram, not to mention stuff he wants to change but for right now he wants the relative peace of doing something familiar.

Though currently he's not doing much more than leaning on his bo staff and watching Leo's kata.]

It's a lot different from New York, huh? [it's quieter for one thing. Even down in the lair in the wee hours of the morning there was always the faint rattle of life overhead with passing cars or the hum of a distant subway. Here there was nothing much but the hush of the ocean. It was kind of a freaky feeling all told]

Leeet's say 15th, morning

[Leonardo will have an audience for his swordplay practice. Like the good, unobtrusive thief that he is, Gaius will just stay off to the side as he watches, arms folded as he leans against whatever's handy. Raphael had mentioned something about ninja but Gaius hasn't seen any of them fight yet. Kind of an interesting way to go about it practicing, though.]

[Despite the unusual shipmates he's found himself in the company of, Gaius is rather at ease around them. If he seems to be, more often than not, out of the way or simply scarce, it's more out of habit than out of any intentional attempts to avoid people.

One of his favorite haunts is up in the crow's nest (if no one's hanging out there first), where he can watch the goings on below and see if anything might be heading their way along the blue beyond.

The other would definitely be the kitchen, where he can be found either sneaking a quick snack of some honey, taking stock of their food supplies, or perhaps baking a pie or cooking a simple meal for the crew.

16th

[you may find the fridge somewhat out of commission. Though Donatello has stored the food in a crate filled with ice for the duration, he currently has the fridge turned around and is buried shell deep in the guts of the thing, trying to figure out how it all works.]

Man, if I just had the proper tools...

[Corners him in the kitchen at some point, looking like he's trying not to look excited.]

Man, can you believe all my brothers showed up? And here I was thinking I'd be the only mutant turtle here for awhile.

[Sneaks a peak at the oven.]

[you can find Donatello in a plethora of places, either on the deck or a table in the galley, making complex diagrams and plans. Experimenting with ropes. Checking water depth and wind gauge, stopping Mikey from touching stuff or otherwise exploring the sadly technology deficient world he's found himself in]

[He might find himself being stalked around the deck, but purely out of curiosity because there seem to be so many of these green creatures around here! So don't freak out or anything if you turn and suddenly find yourself face to face with a Night Fury.]

[After setting Sail, Mikey can be seen doing just about anything but sleeping! He's here, and there, and pretty much everywhere, trying to figure it all out. He's read pirating comics, so he recognizes things... lots of things, but he has no idea how they WORK. Still, PIRATES. How cool is that?]

[Find him on deck, either leaning over a railing, grinning down at fish or dolphins or just the water. Or find him practicing on deck with his nunchaku, or mostly just goofing off. Find him below deck, playing with things he shouldn't be, or just pestering you. He has ADD or something, his attention goes all over the place. Meaning he'll be anywhere...]

[This an idle comment coming from Gaius who sits on a barrel, idly sharpening a knife although he couldn't help but notice the turtle leaning so far over the railing.]

[Working through a kata out on deck with a continually growing tick on his head as Mikey bounces around from place to place. Who can concentrate with this guy around?!

He lasts about thirty more seconds before he explodes.]

[he's a good brother. Being the one naturally inclined to the more intellectual side of life, he feels it's a duty to sometimes educate his brothers on various things. Sometimes, he even works himself up to knowing that he has to teach Mikey who isn't stu-- well is a little stupid but nevertheless has the capacity for learning if the instructor has the patience of sensei. Which Donnie doesn't, generally, but Master Splinter also isn't here and so--]

Okay, Mikey. Today I'm going to teach you how to sail.

16th, afternoon

[All he wanted was some peace and quiet. All he wanted to do was sit below deck and work on meditating, that shouldn't be so hard. But of course Mikey just had to be bugging him about who knows what because that's just the way that Mikey seemed to role. Was it really that hard to get some peace? Was it?!

Finally he let out some kind of frustrated noise and opened one eye.]

Mikey, will you knock it off?! I'm trying to focus here!
